Nicely done. I bet there is all kinds of interesting stuff as a closeup here too. |

You are correct about the water; the intense blue competes with the colors. I think I will darken the water somewhat. |

I can see why you chose the tighter crop. If you crop it to get the whole bird and use the branches as a frame, you end up with very bright highlights on the leaves in the right corner, and even after reducing the highlights on the whole image, and then repeating the reduction on just the selected leaves, they are still quite bright and distracting (at least by using the jpeg, and not the original raw). |

I certainly debated removing the hole entirely, but I also keep wondering that by leaving it I have created a minor focal point that creates a triangle between the two flowers and the gap in leaf. |

While I stated previously, I liked it as is, but along the line of what Kirsti mentioned, a little dehaze in LR or Camera Raw applied to the sky only can also pop the colors and add more contrast. |

I can imagine the range that you had to deal with, and you did a good job with the 2 exposures. I like the final range and composition, and do not see anything you would need to change. |

I prefer the B&W, and the abstract nature of the image. As a B&W, I feel that the right side needed less highlights so more detail was present, and also so it was not in quite so much contrast to the left. Also removed some brightness at the front of the stair rails. For whatever reason, the color version seemed sharper to me than the B&W, especially in the left area, even though it is just a derivative and should not be. (Possibly due to the color contrast?) So I also used Topaz AI sharpening. |

I think both the color and B&W work for different reasons. I think the cropping helps, but wonder if cropping more sky might be better, as it pushes the hikers into the thirds position. I tried this, plus cropping slightly on sides (removes that bit of rock on left that sticks into frame). I also warmed it slightly to take out some of the blue cast, and that is just more of personal taste, as I know you may prefer the colder feel of the blue. |
