I think the cropping improves the image by adding to the importance of the structure. |

I agree that the drama from this view is not as intense. The rain falling makes a big impact. Like so many images we take, it seems we have to make compromises when we change views (and time). At east you explored the other possibility, but I think your first choice is better. I tend to agree with Mervyn that possibly adding more light/contrast to the steeple might help. |

Hiding the flashlight turned out to be the easiest part; I just had to align myself so that it was hidden, and flare was not out of control. Exposure took a little trial and error. (Thank goodness for digital camera screens.) |

The sky with rain falling is what really makes this image. I think you could possibly add more local contrast to the clouds to punch up the drama even more. I go back and forth on the choice to use only the tower; the composition is good, but I wonder if more of the church would be better? Did you get an opportunity to climb to the top to get a more full view? (Or was that view than more complicated?) |

It certainly expresses a moment. The background is not too distracting, but applying a minor vignette might help too.
I keep wondering if you could have got one with the hand slightly moved so that that at least one of the eyes was partly visible, if this might have given us even more impact. |

While the original is interesting too, I think this choice of crop to one makes it better.
Color and exposure are great, and the background fits the image. The only possibility might be to darken the lights above the geisha's head, as long as the end result does not give them a grey appearance. (Perhaps partial transparency cloning of them would also work.) |

Well taken! Exposure, textures, color are wonderful. And the sky is interesting too. Perhaps cropping some of the sky pushes the horizon from being dead center, and emphasizes the couple just a bit more. |

My suggestion would be to crop some of the top off, but leave enough sky above the bridge, as I think this brings the focus in a little better. |

I agree with Jose. The dark spot towards the top is a distraction that can be easily eliminated, and it would not compromise it as true nature image. |

Thanks. With an image like this it is difficult to know what kind of reaction it will get. This is one of the reasons I like the study group- to get feedback. |
