Definitely the wait was worth it to get this composition. My only suggestions would be to consider cropping a little off the bottom to bring the engine closer to the "thirds" center of interest. Possibly the lower left grasses could be burned a little bit too. |

I looked at the area above the trees, and noticed the lighter area due to the position of the lights. But I noticed something even worse; the very tops of the tree are blurry due to the wind! SO it looks like I will be cloning off the very tops of these trees AND evening out the light! I will also try lightening that column shadow at the same time to see if that can be de-emphasized without messing up the contrast.
After posting it here, I decided to enter this in a PSA PIDM exhibition, and it got a Bronze medal, so the judges did not get a chance to see that, but I definitely want to fix it for the next time I use this image, probably as a large print locally. |

While the color version is nice for the sunset, I agree with your decision to use B&W, as it does simplify it to the feeling you wished to convey. It appeared that the horizon was slightly off, and when I checked it in PS with the Ruler Tool, it did show a slight angle, so I straightened it. But then the post on the left was leaning, I assume due to some slight lens distortion (wide angle?). I used Transform>Distortion to straighten again. I noticed that the marker on the horizon had artifact halos that were not so evident in the rest of the image. I assume it is due to over sharpening, but possibly it was jpeg compression? (I did not see it in the original version.) I recently learned a great technique for fixing that; select all but the marker, and then use a clone tool to match up the sky against the marker. The marker remains protected from the cloning tool. I also gave some tonal lightening to some of the foreground to create a little more separation in the bottom blacks. (I could see this in your original image, but when I added it to the web page, the subtle change there seemed to disappear.) See what you think. (Smaller jpeg may not be able to show the changes well.) |

Spiral and curves reinforcing each other. I like the shapes, and agree that the B&W interpretation is better. I think that making the lower left slightly darker emphasizes this even more. (Your color version seems to be darker in this area too.) My preference is a little more contrast, to drive the separation of whites and darks in this nice graphic image. |

Very humorous. A little cold to be sleep walking. I think you did a great job of capturing the moment. |

Yes, does look like a very angry beetle! I would have preferred a little more depth of focus in the front, but you got what counts in focus. |

What, you did not race madly like Galen to position the church under the rainbow? ;-)
Very nice shot. If you would have had time, taking another slightly to the right so that you could have stitched them together to get the entire rainbow would have been heaven. You might be able to get a little more drama by adding more contrast to the sky- not sure though. |
