76 Oct 23 Reply An interesting sky does make all the difference. Often, at the air show in San Francisco, there is either a blue sky with no clouds or fog. So, when there are nice clouds I'm happy. Thanks for your comments, Gordon. Oct 21st
76 Oct 23 Reply Thanks Trey. A lot of images taken at these air shows look the same and trying to get something different is always a challenge. Think next year I'll try to find a different spot where I will incorporate one of the bridges along with the Blue Angel airplane(s). One time I was taking a picture of a Blue Angel airplane and a pelican flew into the image. The plane was at the top and the pelican on the bottom of the image. Both subjects are small in the image and there's too much space between the two but I like to compare the speed of the plane with the slow speed of the pelican. It's just a fun image that I'll probably never do anything with but still enjoy looking at it. The chances of me ever capturing something like that again is zero. Oct 21st
76 Oct 23 Reply High sync and a fast shutter speed help. Usually I start tracking the plane from a distance and when it gets closer to where I'm at, I just let the shutter "rip". All this preparation doesn't mean I'll get the picture I want but at least there's a slight chance I might. Thanks for the comments, Jay. Oct 21st
76 Oct 23 Comment I prefer the color image. In the b/w image the woman's hair blends in with the dark background. In the color image the highlight is more apparent and gives a better separation from the darker background of the feathered headdress. The positioning of the woman's arms are nice as well as her facial expression. Nice exposure all around. I agree with Ian that the sparkly glove behind the woman should be removed as it is a distraction to the overall nice image. I've probably mentioned it before but you have a nice sense of timing taking performers at their peak of photographic expression. Well done, Sophie. Oct 16th
76 Oct 23 Comment I'm always in awe of people who do astro-photography. I just finished listening to a talk on astro-photography (via Zoom) and there's a lot to learn and to consider before pressing the shutter button and then all the "hoops" you have to go through in post-processing. Was this image taken recently as I hear that the Milky Way is now in a vertical position as it appears in your image. The exposure of the final image is quite nice. I did notice that there was a star trail on original #1 image and really appreciate how you were able to remove it by stacking and averaging. A question...are those sheep in your image....thought they were rocks at first then settled on sheep. You have inspired me to start again with night photography but will start first with star trails to insure some modem of success...have a lot of reading to do to learn about night photography and, in addition, a lot of practice before being as successful as you are. Would like to see more of your astro photography in the future. I really appreciate your thorough explanation of processing astro-photography from taking to processing. A very nice image, indeed, Gordon.

76 Oct 23 Comment There's almost like an invisible diagonal line going from the lower right to the upper left from green leaf vegetation to the mushroom and beyond to greenery. The richness of the tones in the darker areas are outstanding. Removing distracting elements in the image added to the visual simplicity of the main elements in this intricate scene. And then there is the beautiful Giant Fly Agaric Mushroom...great texture, color processing and the elements of design in its curving edges and stem. All together, an image to be proud of Trey. 76 Oct 23 Comment In this image you show is the power of fire and the intricacies of the dancing flames on the right. The separation of the flames on the right are shown off by the dark background. The variations of red, yellow and orange colors in the frame are intriguing. There are so many things to see in this image...forms, shapes, squiggly lines, etc. I keep finding new things to discover in this image and I keep coming back to this image to find more "discoveries". Thanks for the explanation on how you go about capturing this bonfire as it really helps to understand how you go about capturing this bonfire. Nice image, Ian. Oct 16th
76 Oct 23 Comment The square format for this image really shows off the main subject and brings the viewer's eye right to this beautiful subject. Nice job on eliminating the distracting petal on the right in the original image. The brightening of the subject really shows off the beauty (and color) of this flower...very nice post processing on this image....love this image. As to the two lower dark branches...I don't find them objectionable as it is part of the natural scene but you could play around with the remove tool in Photoshop and remove the lower dark branches and see if you like it better that way. I have "roadies" in my yard and love them. Do you know the name of this rhododendron? I would love to have this one in my yard. Oct 16th
