Every year, 3-4 time a week I would visit the egret colony to photograph them during the breeding season. The male would sit high in the tree displaying his feathers to attract a female and courtship would ensue. Following courtship, the male would fly away breaking off twigs from a tree or picking up sticks from the ground and fly back to hand off the stick to the female to start creating a nest. This would go on until the nest was completed and then 2-5 eggs would be laid with incubation period 23-27 days. Patience is the key word in taking images of Great White Egrets simply because so many pictures look the same but, if your patient and lucky, sometime you come away with a image that is just a bit different from the rest...but then the lighting might not be right, etc., so you just have to do your best in post processing. The lighting in this image was mottled and neighboring birds were close so I had to do some fixing up and did my best to make a decent image. |

The tones in this image are exquisite and beautifully done. The shapes, both vertical, round and rectangle really add to the dimensionality of the subjects in the image. The lighting is subdued but effective..just right, actually. I love the small things that add to the image such as the ing stems of the pears. This image is well thought out and executed to effect maximum impact. Well done, Heidi. |

Love this image.! The first thing I did was laugh and laugh...great capture and at the right moment. (Ps..I'm still laughing...see how much impact your image has on me)..Ok..ok..I will now get serious. Nice cropping, especially on the bottom where the squirre's toe is on the edge of the frame and cropping on the right good also drawing the viewing to where you want him (or her) to look. I like your sharpening as it enhances the squirrel's fir and toning down the highlights is very effective. Now I know what I'm going to do with my left over pumpkins next Halloween...have plenty of squirrels in my backyard. |

Lucky you to be in Antartica to photograph this penguin. I think you could crop at the bottom a couple of inches and still have a nice image, maybe even make a vertical of this image placing the penguin on the right side with sufficient space behind him and more in front of hm. If you make it a vertical I feel the two chucks of ice in the background are an important element to the image and would keep them in the image. I just loved playing around with your image as there are several ways to interpret this image. This image shows us the harsh and barren landscape that penguins live in and therefore has great impact on the viewer. Well seen. |

Beautiful lines in an image always draw me in the photograph. The tones of the color are subdued but just perfect to let the beautiful design of the chrome stand out. The shadows in the image are nicely rendered as well as the reflections on the chrome. I also like the way you blended the two tones of green on the left middle side of your image. In your original image my eye goes right to the two tones of green. Lighting the word "brown" in your image was a smart move. I can see that a lot of thought went into making this the best image it could be. Well done. |

What a great capture...can't believe how close those cars are to each other. I was noticing how the colors of the cars are aligned with the background colors (red/grey). The fellow in the background adds interest to the image as well as the vertical black poles. One's eye is kept focused in the image from the upsweep of the road and back down the hillside then back to the cars. Congratulations...great action image.
