Maria,
Absolutely beautiful and frame-worthy! The composition, complementary colors, clarity and lovely background all make for an impactful image. The tiny plant hairs (trichomes) add so much interest and dimension of depth to this photograph! I feel as though I can almost reach out and touch them. I also like how you kept the frame slightly transparent so as not to be distracting. Great job! |

Hi Melanie,
I also find orchids to be quite fascinating and almost fairy-like. Your monochrome orchid has a lovely ethereal quality that allows me to focus more on its delicate shapes, patterns and composition instead of being distracted by its natural colorations. I really like how the soft curves are nicely enhanced by the contrasting darker areas and lead my eyes to the flower's center.
Although I am not usually a fan foreground blur, your orchid's center is in focus so, in my opinion, the soft focus in the foreground adds to the dreaminess of your image. I hope this one is hanging on your wall!

Hi Fran,
Lovely image! What a very cool idea to dry out flowers and photograph them! I have only just joined and I am already learning so much. I am not sure I'd know how to do photo stacking. I will have to do some research.
You've done a great job in bringing out the details of the aging rose. I love how the colors and textures in the rose are perfectly complemented by the colors and subtle swirled patterns (mimicking the texture in the petals) in the background.
This image tells me a story. It is like a metaphor for life. Although the rose's beauty has begun to fade, we learn to appreciate its magnificence through a different lens. |

Al,
Hope you are feeling better and recuperating quickly:)
What a beautiful image! The soft, black backdrop nicely showcases the vibrant floral arrangement. I love how you enhanced the colors and details in the vase. It makes me want to reach out and feel its smooth texture. I agree with your decision to remove the small objects in the original image. I also agree with Fran that the dark background in your original is preferable.
The only thing I might have considered changing would have been to clone out two of the petals: The one on the left and the one in the middle. In my opinion, leaving only the petal on the top right would give the appearance that a petal had fallen naturally, rather than being placed in the triangular formation as it had been by your club member. Either way, it's lovely! |
