It's processed in a contrasty fashion, but the scene lacks elements that contrast with one another. OK so like remember when we were kids....we still had a black and white TV but some shows were shot in color. So if you watched a movie or a modern sitcom on the B&W it looked sort of gray, but if you flipped the channel to I Love Lucy, POW! the scene jumped right out at you. The set was designed to show contrasts, to isolate the subjects from the background. Am I making sense? Probably not. |

Yeah, so the answer is. In my hotel room with my iphone held firmly against the window. I like the image for all the reasons you described. At first, the brick buildings annoyed me, but then I felt they gave the composition a layered appearance. Thanks for your comments. |

That is a delicious moon!
Unsolicited advice: I cannot see this in the posted image but technically, I would advise you that the full moon is quite bright and you don't need to shoot it at such high ISO. You'll get better detail and contrast with something like 1/200s, f/8, ISO 200. This could vary this depending on the moon's elevation, and needing to keep the shutter speed high enough to avoid getting blur from the earth's rotation. |

I absolutely agree that photos of birds are nicely enhanced by a good background. In this case, there might be a little too much background. Maybe try a square crop, like this. |

Steve I have to push back on this one. Although the subject matter is great, there is a lack of contrast there are distracting elements that make it hard for the eye to find places to rest. I don't know if the color version would draw attention to the man more, or not.

Fun with household objects. This is a good example of abstract photography. There is a lot in focus. Did you stack? |

First of all I love that the interesting scene was behind you. What a good lesson I have to keep in mind. What I enjoy about it is the storytelling...so many interactions between the subjects, and some just chilling. Makes you wand to hang out or ask for some weed (no just kidding). |
