Your image is fun and interesting. It's like a bird ballet. I agree teleconverters stink. I literally sold mine so that I would stop being tempted to use it and get soft focus every time. Really. I did that. |

More technical details about focus. It took me a long time to learn this: for technical reasons, no modern autofocus zoom lens has a hard stop at infinity. Some prime lenses do, but you have to look for that feature (Irix is one that does). On the other hand, flyovers can be rather close, and you need to consider whether with your 500mm those planes are closer than infinity. So yes, use something like 3D autofocus, or whatever your camera model recommends for ....birds.

Take it one step further? Since it is abstract, go into photoshop and add some funky filters. That will overcome the limitations of the low resolution, and may get you to the point where you cannot tell it's a tree stump, that would be fun. |

Street photography is hard and simply eludes me. Either I miss the shot or don't have the right camera at all. I also just got back from Israel where I have two missed shots imprinted indelibly into my memory....maybe that's better than a photo! One was five ultra-orthodox 6-year olds in their traditional garb lined up on a railing raptly watching a backhoe...I would have had to jump out of the car and who knows what would have happened then. The other is a tattoed young lady smoking, perched on the back of a bench, looking stern. Would the moment have held up to my camera? I dunno. I am sorry to say that with your subject looking away the image doesn't grab the viewer's attention. |

A good take on a fine technique. |

Ha funny I already pruned one branch. It was a big one touching the parent bird's beak. The one in front of the chicks would be hard to do but I think I can get rid of the one between them. |
