Hi Darcy,
You know, I hadn't really thought about his age at the time, so I had to look up the exact dates for the Battle of the Bulge - December 16, 1944, to January 25, 1945. And wow - he was just 18! We can't possibly fathom what those "kids" endured.
Thanks for your comments.
Karen
P.S. I forgot to add that I did remove some distant people from the background to help draw attention to this special man having his moment. |

Hi Kamal,
What a cool guy to meet on your walk! I like how you sharpened and enhanced the texture and color. I also agree that he needs more "headroom" and maybe a little less greenery behind.
If you really want to get fancy, you could ask Ps's AI engine to recreate the tip of his tail for you!
Great capture! Thanks for sharing!

Hi Greg,
Beautiful photo! I love your treatment of the sky and that you cropped out the guy on the left. But why stop there? You might consider removing the child also (and I'm still debating with myself about the seated couple.) Your image projects serenity, but the active body language of the child disrupts that feeling.
I could also support taking a bit more off the bottom and darkening that lighter, horizontal support area of the dock, to better draw the eye to the sailboat and the lone lady enjoying the sunset.
Great image! Thanks for sharing.

Hi Darcy,
I love the backstory to this image, since (alas!) I have never been there either!
Your composition is good and keeps the eye wandering through the image. If there could be deemed a "focal point" it would be the round base of that one antler. Maybe crop your image so that it appears in exactly the lower third intersection.
I like Greg's idea for the vignetting and stroke. One thing our camera club has been taught is to expand the canvas in Ps to create a black frame, THEN create a stroke to suggest a beveled edge "mat" around your digital photo. It does make for a more dramatic digital presentation.
Great capture. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Ingrid.
What an interesting shot! As mentioned, great job on the sky replacement, especially in the water. I also agree that the B&W draws more attention to the texture and would love to see if offset a bit more off-center.
Thanks for sharing!
