Hello Xiao,
I appreciate your feedback and will take another look at the original to see if I can pull out a bit from the tight crop.
Thanks and Happy New Year!

Hello Kamal,
Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I am pretty sure that I have more "real estate" in my raw file, so I'll revisit that crop and see if I can show more of her arm and her studio. That might make for a better "Environmental Portrait".
Thanks and Happy New Year!

Hi Darcy,
Thanks so much for your comments. This was a fun shoot. Her whole apartment was bright and cheery - just like her personality, so I'm glad that you feel I captured it. I was a bit concerned about the color of the border, so it's good to know that it seems to work with the image.
Barbara DID like it and I think she is using this shot on her website.
Thanks for your feedback (and your patience with my tardiness).

Hi Ingrid,
Thanks so much for your feedback. She was a great model. That was actually the wall of her studio. When I saw that, coupled with her hair and the shirt she chose to wear - it just made everything pop!
Ah, if only ALL of my shoots were this easy!
Thanks!

Hi Tom,
Thanks for the compliments.
Oh my - I had not noticed those ultra-white bristles. That should be an easy fix. Good catch.
Thanks!

Hi Greg,
Thank you for your comments.
Interestingly, our camera club jest selected "Environmental Portraits" and one of our categories for 2023. Maybe "The Artist" will make an appearance!

Hello Kamal,
I guess there is a benefit to being late to the party! I loved seeing the progression of your images based on the others' feedback. The final version is a definite improvement with the new crops to remove those distracting elements.
Kudos to you for capturing this hand-held with your phone. Our camera club had quite a debate recently about incorporating cell phone photography into our competitions. The nay-sayers didn't have much to say when someone asked what Ansel Adams would have thought about them using all the new software to dodge and burn their digital photos!
Great job!
Karen
P.S. I do think the moon might be just a bit too big...

Hi Tom,
Love the lighting and the mood you created. The spread of the feathers is quite artistic. How in the world did you get him to pose like that?!
I agree that the foliage to the left is a bit distracting. I held a piece of paper to bring the crop in a bit from the left and WOW - did the bird just pop! Try that portrait orientation and see what you think.

Hi Greg,
I was admiring the whimsy of your image and the great expressions you captured... and then I looked at the original. Wow - you created a striking image in a very challenging environment. Kudos on the great post-processing!

Hi Darcy,
Love the story! I've seen the Arc from a distance (before I owned a camera) but did not realize this fabulous staircase was inside. What an awesome capture with NO PEOPLE! I don't think having a person on the stairs would have added anything to the image. Great job bringing out the texture and drawing the viewer into your shot!

Hi Ingrid,
Like the others, I love the moody feel of the image. You post-processing is spot on with the B&W conversion and removal of that one big tree. Now, you just need to come up with a really cool title!
Good luck and let us know how you do in the exhibit.
