Love the story behind this image!
Good choice to display it at a 90-degree angle from the original orientation. While the shorelines don't actually "lead" you to the main subject of the image, I think the human eye appreciates horizontal lines rather than vertical ones.
I also feel that your image does not really need all the water to the right of the net circle. How about a crop fairly close to the right side of the net to place it more into the right third of the image? That would also eliminate the excessive brightness in the upper right created by the sunlight reflecting from the water.
And since I was playing around, I thought I'd try a B&W version!
Just some thoughts... |

P.S. Now that white line through his head is bothering me. Should be an easy fix for someone with better Photoshop skills than I! |

I'm going totally radical here, so keep in mind that it's just my opinion...
The story is in his upper body - he is sexy and intense. You've done a great job highlighting his musculature and capturing the intensity of his gaze. Everything else is just a distraction - the ring, the bush, the white patching on the wall. Why not just get rid of all that and focus on this awesome model?
I did a quick crop to see what everyone else thinks... |

Great capture of a beautiful animal!
I love the lighting on the tail, but my eye keeps being drawn to the mane which seems a bit too bright. I would love to see a bit more detail there to balance the image. |

This made me smile! (How can you not?!) Great capture of this character!
Good points about moving him a bit off-center to add to the interest and lightening the white triangle (or perhaps cloning some other fabric/colors there. A vignette might also work well to help direct the viewer's eye to you subject and downplay the busy-ness of the background.
Fun image! |

Being a former sailboat owner, I would also like to see more detail in the sailboat. I love the mood created by the B&W, but the image just doesn't "grab" me. Maybe more of the boat's reflection instead of the darker water at the top? |

Welcome, Ingrid!
Lovely shot. As the other have said, I like the contrast between the cool tones on the left and the warmer tones on the right. And, those diagonals help lead your eye to the inviting coziness of the inside. I agree with Tom - no need for a person inside. The mind can certainly conjure that s/he is in there somewhere. Great job! |

Thanks, everyone. I will experiment some more on his face before I print this one for his mom. And clean my sensor! |
