thanks everyone - great suggestions. Updated version attached.
Brenda - I went ahead and got the Topaz bundle, agree - this is pretty amazing. Just learning to use, but great results early on. cropped bottom, and selectively modified the background as per Jim's comments. Overall significantly better picture. Have to fine tune my skills with refining object selection a little more as well... |

Hi Jason, interesting shot - agree with the other comments - I think the warm sunset tones are the highlight of this shot, and I would keep this image in color. Like Brenda's adjustments - not sure what else I would add to it from an adjustment perspective, but agree with Terry's observation that something is "missing..." would love to see something else to add some context - ie.. the street heading off into the distance, etc. thx for sharing this! |

Nice job Terry - I like it a lot, definitely agree with the mono approach. Love the approach of your camera club to challenge people to make the best out of a given set of circumstances! Well done :) |

Hi Helen, I really like what you've done with this capture, and I am particularly fascinated by other's suggestions of how to work with it in post. This is one of those images that I'd love to work on for a few hours with experts to learn all of these techniques - I've not yet gotten to the point in my "photo life" to feel comfortable with these levels of adjustments but it gives me something to aspire to!
Really like the leading lines to the center of the image. The sky/towers are great, and I really like the sky you've inserted (gotta learn how to do that!) agree with comments above that there are likely multiple unique and excellent compositions nested within this capture. Great image - TY! |

Striking image - nice capture! Agree with comments above - works really well in mono. Personally, I like the version that has more of the church. It has a creepy feel to it, and it almost looks like the tree is shying away from it. My eyes are drawn equally to both sides of the image. Really great - where was this taken?

Great shot, Jim - really drawn to the colors and patterns on their necks. Tough exposure, you've done a nice job fixing this in post. I might try cropping it in a bit tighter, to get rid of some of the open water in the upper right quarter of the frame. Not sure if you can rotate a few degrees CCW to make this easier without making the turtles look "wrong". Like the image - thx! |

Great image Brenda - adding this to my travel wish list! Nice work with the crop/straighten. I like the idea of the rays - agree with Terry's thought about extending over the buildings if possible (beyond my post-processing skill set). I like how you've cleaned up the domes. If only it were that easy in real life! Well done, beautiful image. |

Thanks all - great suggestions. I like the mono a lot - nice suggestion. However, recognizing that this would void the image from nature competition, I did play around with selectively leaving the yellow in the eyes - the only real "color" point of interest (to me). Denoised as well. Haven't used Topaz yet, but on my list to try one of these times! Updated version attached... |
