Thanks Jason - didn't even notice the banding until you said something. It's an artifact that came when I exported from LR before emailing to Brenda. Have not seen that before. I had set size limit 1MB on resizing. Interestingly, if I set it to just export with long side 1200 pixels, the artifact is not there...
Great suggestion on the gradient filter for the sky. Attached image adds both fixes. I'm not experienced with color gradients on midtones....

Great shot Jason, Love the cardinal, the statue, and the title is perfect! Shooting through glass window/door can be challenging, depending on angle you're shooting. need to make sure no background light on your side of the window. I've seen ads for silicon hoods that go on end of lens and seal up onto the window, but have not used personally. Nice job!

Hi Terry -
You took a really interesting photographic opportunity and turned it into an exceptional image. Great work cleaning up the mural, and the monochrome treatment really suits it perfectly. Nothing to add beyond the prior postings. thanks for sharing! |

Hi Helen,
Love this shot - great subject matter. Not much to add beyond prior posts - you did a fantastic job with this. Really like how you got rid of the bright spots, particularly above his head! Thank you for sharing this |

Hi Sunil,
Nice photo! Like the story that it tells. Snow shots are hard - not sure if you shot in raw... In lightroom, may be able to selectively bring down the whites/highlights and see some more 'texture' in the snowscape. I like the sign. thanks for sharing this! |

Hi Jim,
New to the group, delighted to be here. I really like this photo - great subject matter, and I like your approach. Agree with others about removing yourself from the photo - would clone in one of the other steps if possible. I really like how you replaced the bottom of the stairwell with a cathedral ceiling. It's subtle, and if you hadn't told us, I would not have realized that was your approach. it's less distracting than the original floor...
With respect to the cropping, I like that you took off the landing on the right side - to my eye, there's too much going on there at the top right of the original, and it distracts from the spiral that I think is the focus of the image. I might even consider cropping a little closer on that side, in order to keep the flow of the spiral before the line turns out and off the right side... See attached crop suggestion. Thanks for sharing this - nice work! |

Late to the show here, but delighted to be a part of this group! This is a great photo - love how you've lifted the birds into a new background. I'm going to have to go learn how to "select subject" in PS - have some experience with layers and selection tools, but suspect I'm not taking advantage of all the software has to offer. You've done this wonderfully.
I'm always drawn to the eye(s) of the subjects and find that images are more powerful if they are looking right at you. If the eyes aren't sharp, there's not much you can do with it. You've got them both focused perfectly.
I'm relatively new to the competition world, so can't speak to this in that context, but I think it's a great image - thanks for sharing! Others in the group had great suggestions. I will try to hop in earlier next month with constructive feedback. |
