48 Jul 21 Reply Yes, it makes sense that sometimes we take images to record a moment. I totally get that. Jul 6th
48 Jul 21 Reply Thanks Jamie. Good point. I'll do that. Jul 6th
48 Jul 21 Reply Thanks Lloyd. Much appreciated Jul 6th
48 Jul 21 Comment Birds shots are really hard so great effort. Little birds also fly really fast so perhaps try some even faster shutter speeds. Also, I think your aperture might have to be around f8 or so to get more of the bird in focus, given you were quite close to it. Good luck with this genre! Jul 5th
48 Jul 21 Comment Beautiful colours Mary and I also like that you have removed the distractions. I agree with Margaret that the foreground is not sharp. You could also try focus stacking. Focus on a few different areas, then align and blend in Photoshop. Some newer cameras also allow you to do this in camera. Jul 5th
48 Jul 21 Comment Thanks for the bit of history about the image. I also like the monochrome better than the colour version. Good to hear you are using Silver Efex Pro. I am also starting to use the Nik Collection. I am wondering if a person in the image might have added a bit more to the story? Jul 5th
48 Jul 21 Comment I too like the framing of the arch above the peaceful waterfall and wondered if you could try a sky replacement to remove the buildings behind? I see this is an image you took while at a conference so you wouldn't have had your gear to do a slow shutter. However, I was also wondering if you play with this function on your smart phone? You can do some cool hand held slow shutter stuff. Jul 5th
48 Jul 21 Comment I like the storytelling nature of this image and agree re. the crop. Street Photography is always tricky because of the busy backgrounds but I think taking the guy on the right out of the image serves it well. Jul 5th
48 Jul 21 Reply Thanks Mary. PhotoPills is a wonderful app, not just for DOF but for planning sunrises/sunsets and astro shoots. I couldn't recommend it more. There is a lot in it to discover but the guys you developed it share a lot of videos and as well as pdfs with great info. Jul 5th
48 Jul 21 Reply Thanks Margaret and I do agree although I find that sometimes judges are just not partial to a portrait where the eyes are closed. I picked this image from many others because I was keen to see if it resonated with the group. Jul 5th
48 Jul 21 Reply Thanks Bev. It's good to know it is useful Jul 5th
