I'm a Virginian! I lived in Virginia (mainly Northern, but also Fredericksburg and Charlottesville) my whole life until I retired in 2017 and moved to South Carolina. I'll let you know if I see any bears or owls! |

Thank you! I'll let you know how I do. Do you live in NC? If so, are you a member of CNPA? |

Yes, I'm spending a week in Hattaras. I plan to spend a night in Washington, NC (sounded like a quaint place) and then I want to visit Lake Mattamuskeet and Alligator River on my way to OBX. My concern right now is that the weather forecast looks like rain, but they have been known to be wrong! I haven't heard of Pocosin so I will check it out. Thanks! |

Thanks - I guess it all depends on the whatever the subject needs to be - the bird or the landscape with the bird! |

I love this photo of the cormorant. It made me laugh and so did your comment about the last thing a fish sees. They are voracious eaters of fish. I live on a lagoon and the cormorants will descend on it and eat all the fish and move one to the next lagoon. I am working on a photographic series of birds looking straight on at me so I especially found this one interesting. Well done. |

The detail in the larger crane's face is wonderful. I also enjoyed the explanation on their wing feathers during flight. I would have taken out the smaller crane to focus on the larger one, but that is personal preference. |

I think it's a great photo - I like the wings barely touching the water and the water coming off his back feet. I like the crop as I think it fits the shape of the bird, but I would add a little to the front of him so he has somewhere to go. |

The detail is wonderful on this owl. I keep looking for them, but they are so hard to spot sometimes. I am heading to NC this week and will spend the 1st day looking for bears and I hope to see an owl also! I agree that if you could work on the bright spots, especially the one to the left of him, it would be less distracting. It's a great photo, though! |

Thank you and I agree that this crop is better. It focuses more on the bird and takes it out of the center of the photo. |

Thank you! No fancy editing - I did very little to this photo - it was taken at 1/1000 sec - F8 - 260 mm with my 100-400 lens so he was fairly close to me and I think the greenery in the distance was far enough away to create the bokeh. |
