Part of the problem is that there really isn't a good definition of Fine Art Photography. Once you get familiar with it, you understand better. They use a lot of long exposure, camera tricks, post processing, tone, color, light - a lot of simplicity and negative space. There is a facebook group and the work posted there is beautiful. The instructor used Freeman Patterson's book "Photography and the Art of Seeing" and referenced Athena Carey, Anne Smith Duncan, Julia Anna Gospodarou among others. Our 1st assignment was to photograph an egg. I am attaching my egg photo done as fine art. If you are on Facebook, search for fine art photography in groups - it really helps to visually explain it. Good luck! |

I agree with a lot of the comments already made. It looks like a peaceful watercolor. I would crop some off the top and bottom, but still keep the horizon at the 1/3 line. The sky is the story more than the water. Making the colors a little more vibrant helps. Very nice composition and capture. I am heading that way for Christmas so your photo just makes me happy! |

Oh good, more shoes! Very nice holiday still life and I especially like the artistic touches. It looks like an oil painting. Very nice. |

I did try it several different ways, but the plain background was a little boring to me so I added the words. Fine art photography is a new phase of photography that I am still attempting to learn. I get too much tension when I look at the red against the blue - my eyes go crazy looking at it - and that defeats the purpose of the photo in my opinion. |

I like the twirl effect - a good way to save a photo and make it artistic. I took the challenge and tried making it an orb in Photoshop, but I think I like the twirl effect better. |

Wonderful capture. That must have been a fantastic trip. I agree that the background is a distracting and the twigs interfere with the beautiful antlers. I worked on it very quickly (needs more attention to detail), but tried removing some of the distractions and lessened the blue tint. I also flipped it since I am always getting criticism to have photos go from left to right so thought I would give it a try here. Can't wait to see more from your trip! |

I really like the crop on this photograph. The sweeping of the mane shows movement of the horse and the subject is really the eye and mane as the horse is running by. A good subject for a B&W image. |

This is tough because I like both of them. I really like the textures and colors in the original photograph as well as the flower set against the geometric background. I also like the version with an artistic filter. It looks like an oil painting. They are very different and both are very nice. |
