Thanks. I have Lightroom and Photoshop - both make it easy to remove spots like this. I just meant that it's too late to fix THIS photo since it's been submitted and posted. :) |

Thanks Belinda. It's not the structure in the photo that causes the road to fail. It's just that the road was built on the side of a coastal hill and rain will frequently loosen the soil beneath the road and cause it to slip into the sea. It's always a different part of the road, usually less that a hundred yards long or so. |

I wanted to get more sea in this image but the rock that the structure is on forces an upward camera angle. There are several spots on the rock to scramble up, but I decided not to risk it. I noticed the spot too and have since cleaned it on the camera. Too late to get the photo though. Sigh . . |

I wondered about that shape too and why they built it that way. The area is called Devil's Slide because there is a coastal road that runs just a bit behind the building and parts of it often fall into the sea in this area, closing the road for months. A couple of years ago, they re-routed the road inland a bit which required the digging of two tunnels beneath the coastal hill that is there. |

Well, it does add color. See my response to Bob above. I think it would have been a more powerful photo if the building had been untouched. |

Thanks Bob. You are right about pictures in pictures here. That said, however, I'm pretty anti-graffiti. We have so much of it here in California and while they like to use a word that makes it seem innocent ("tag"), I refer to it only as vandalism. :) |

Thanks Tony. I shot this from the back left corner, so the front is facing the ocean (which you can see a glimpse of). |

The one thing I do with compositions like yours is "zoom with my feet". That means walk all around the subject, get closer, move back, etc. Take 50 shots. Hope that helps. :) |

There was a pot of gold in the water right there. Some boaters really scored. :) |

Gotta say that I like the color one better. But I am definitely biased towards color - ever since I was 7 years old and my Dad came home with the greatest invention ever made: a color television. :) |

We don't get much rust where I live in California. But I did grow up in Chicago, and that rust sure brings back some memories. :) |
