94 May 25 Comment You have also made good use of textures and light with this photo. Its very well done, consider entering some nature photo competitions with this this one. May 24th
94 May 25 Reply Although I don't use them much, a good well built tripod and ball head, or gimbal, or L bracket makes photography so much easier.
I now put my name and email on all my tripods, etc, other gear. I left a good tripod in Acadia National Park several years ago at the beginning of a trip. It was never turned in. I bought another inexpensive one, then added a better ball head. I also have my name and email on a small label on my lenses and lens caps, especially when I am with a group and we all use similar equipment.
I really like how you caught spring in this photo with the clear air, and the greenery on the trees.

94 May 25 Comment I am late to the discussion and I am sort of speechless...I am amazed by your trip and I know nothing about these birds. The colors are stunning.

If you add more space on the right, I would also add a bit more head room on the top. You sure captured his beautiful colors.

94 May 25 Comment Of course it is a startling good photo. I would like to know more about your trip and how you got it. I assume this is a bird in the wild and not one of places where they bait and lure the birds. May 24th
94 May 25 Comment Nice catchlights in the eyes. I think you did a terrific job with this photo taken under less than ideal conditions. May 24th
94 May 25 Comment What would have the photo been like if you shot it at f/4? Would a little more DOF made a difference and sharpened the beak? The claws appear very sharp, as does the center of the bird. Maybe the focus point was slightly towards the crest of the chest?

We are very pixel picky here. This is a wonderful shot.

94 May 25 Reply Gwen, here is the raw photo before editing. The lens and the bird's distance from the background made for a nice blur. May 15th
