I think I will practice on horses and kitties this summer with the D850 and the 70-300 AF-P which is light weight, came out for FF cameras in 2017, so improved over the earlier one for DX. I used it when the 200-500 was too heavy to hold and then I get the 500 PF. Thanks. |

I love ICM and I think this is a terrific photo. I am trying to learn this and I appreciate you sharing the settings. I do not think there should have been more details in the photo. You captured a mood and a feeling. It could have been a beach/ocean photo as well. If it were mine I would print it. |

Good job getting such a sharp photo of these two. Was this from a vehicle, or were you in a blind? Or across the water?
The brightness makes me think this was mid-day. I might play with some more contrast. Can you post the uncropped photo? |

I studied this bird before I read anyone's comments and I think it is stunning. I particularly like the purples and magenta colors that blend with the purple flower. I like how the head and eyes are so sharp.
Maybe try a tighter crop, try to take out the black leaf, and maybe decrease the brightness of the leaves in the background.
I think this is a very pleasant photo.

I have never been on a safari either. I really like the action and look in his eyes. I think the suggestion for a square crop might be good, the expression is in his face.
How did you like the 80-400 lens now that you have used other lenses? For my D500 and D850 I have 70-200, 70-300 PF, and the 500 PF. If I did a safari would it help to have the mid range? |

Good suggestion to clone out the chopped birds. I think I'm too jet lagged to notice. |
