49 Feb 25 Comment Peggy,
Congrats on standing where you coukd get the whole gas station. Well balanced image with a nice cushion on either side of the gas station. Rendering the image in b&w was the right decision since you were trying to convey an old time feel. You might even have gone with sepia tone. I found the white on the front of the building a little bright. You might just experiment with bringing down the highlights.

49 Feb 25 Comment Alan, you are to be commended for trying to put this Land Rover and to pull off a very detailed shot of it. When my kids were younger, they loved to put legos together! Great fun. Ok, setting this in a light box on a colored background using focus stacking is the way to go to achieve the results you clearly had in mind. Bravo! The lighting is spot on! Well done. I agree with Josh that you need to get rid of the wrinkles in the cloth, especially right behind the front wheel. I'm left wondering if red was the right background color choice. The color red really grabs your eye. You could go with blue's complimentary color which is yellow or you might go with a neutral gray. Just thinking out loud! Feb 17th
49 Feb 25 Comment Josh, you captured a busy scene at a great time of day! I was surprised that you shot this wide open at f2.8. I looked in vain for a lack of sharpness, but only found it on the right side. I woukd have shot this at say f11 or f16. To me the most interesting part of the scene was the left side. To me the subject is the Ferris wheel. You have some nice leading lines leading the eye to the Ferris wheel. You also have a reflection of the shell. So I would crop off the left side just to the left of that large building on the right. Feb 17th
49 Feb 25 Comment Mark. Bravo for seeing this as minimalist and high key. I would have passed right by it! Several suggestions come to mind. Crop it down from the top so that the sea and sky are the same dimension. Since you have so little color, convert the image to b&w. Feb 17th

I agree with Josh. So glad you used 1/2000 sec. It did a great job in freezing the actio! The wings are sharp. Great job. Like Josh I woukd like to see the tail and the legs. You coukd however crop it down to the head and wing feathers.

49 Feb 25 Comment I agree with what others have said. Suggest that you straighten the vertical lines. Unfortunately the sky was not your friend! Nothing you can do about that! I'd love to see more of the house. Feb 17th
49 Feb 25 Reply I guess I went the other way and added some canvas to the left and right to give it more space. I guess I saw a dragon, but parrot work too. That's what is so cool about an abstract it can be what you want it to be. Feb 17th
49 Feb 25 Reply Oh I like this version! Thanks Craig! Feb 10th

67 Feb 25 Comment Bud,
Love the pse you got with this bird. The bird is looking to our left and you have off-centered the bird so that it has someplace to look. I also love the sinngle webbed foot! Almost like the bird is showing off its fancy footwear like someon at the academy awards! Funny! I agree with Larry, the the bird is not sharp. You can try the texture and clarity sliders on just the bird, or if that doesn't quite get it, then take the image iinto topaz sharpen AI. Also, love the soft background.

67 Feb 25 Comment Butch,
Like the others in our group, I love this image. White sands np is on my bucket list! So, the group has offered up several ways of rendering this image. Let's start with the way you presented it. The horizon line is not straight, but hey you're on a dune, so I don't think that is an issue the color of the sky is beautiful. I like that you placed the plant off center. You might have tried to get more of the shadow of the plant, assuming it was interesting. You also coukd have shot at a higher angle to eliminate the sky. So, the answer is to do all of the above possibilities and when you get home, pick the or ones you like best. But I love what you presented!

67 Feb 25 Comment Larry,
As always, you backstory is as interesting as the image! I didn't realize what bullies the wood storks could be! Great story told in the image. As others said interaction between species makes for a great story! Love the blurred background and the sharpness of the birds!

Very imaginative to have captured a snowy backlit. It really shows off its feathers! I love the reflection! I might suggest a bit more canvas on the bottom to balance the room you have above the bird. If you find the bush on the left helps the composition, then I think adding more canvas at the bottom to balance the full reflection of the bird might be a way to go. Another possibility would be to crop out the bush on the left. Just try it and see if you like it. If you keep the bush, the I suggest you clone out the one bright seed pod on the ropight side of the bush. Finally, I woukd second opening up the shadows on the body of the bird. You will need to do this subtlety or it will look fake! Great shot!

67 Feb 25 Comment Susan, what a great moment! Love the bird of a street sign! You even got the bird at the apex of the sign! Love the snow too. Another way to handle snow is to shoot at say 1/25 sec to get snow streaks, but then you would have to hope that the bird stayed still! Trad offs. I also noticed the blob that butch pointed out. Just use the healing brush in ps to brush it out. I love the soft background! Bravo susan! Feb 18th
67 Feb 25 Comment Michael,
Well I've never seen that bird before and what a pose!! I As for suggestions for improvement, i noted what I think Larry was talking about too. There is a little haloing around the bird's tail. Also, there is a thin sliver of white between the bird's raised foot and its body. While I feel certain that this is just the color of the bird's belly feathers, it looks like a mistake in processing. I'd consider cloning it out. It took me a little whle to make sense of the head position, but once I did, it is quite unusual!

67 Feb 25 Reply Larry, Thanks for this tip. Who is Matt K? I've often wondered how best to get rid of halos. Feb 9th
