Thanks, Josh! I debated how much to crop. The top, I don't need. I wondered about the reflection of the splashes. Keep or crop? |

Alan,
Great picture of this little woodpecker! I have the same problem photographing the birds coming to our backyard feeder. Patience!
You have great detail on the bird and the tree branch. Great bokeh for the background! My only suggestions for improvement would be to lighten up the area around the bird's eye. I know it is a dak eye on a dark headed bird, but give it a shot. Also, the tree branch is cut off. I'd crop up to eliminate the bottom of the branch. |

Josh,
This is my kind of shot! What a lovely landscape! You have great detail in the log and in the mountains, so I think you nailed the "near/far" issue! The composition is terrific, with the log acting as a leading line guiding our euyes to the moutain range! About all I would do to this is to bring out a little more detail in the dark areas of the trees on the other side of the lake.
Oh, I'd also like to know more about how and why you used the filters. I think I would have shot multiple exposures and blended them using HDR in LRC. |

Criag,
This is certainly an imaginative image. Love to know more about how you created it. What did the starting image look like? OK, this is an abstract, so my focus is not on what it is, but how it comports with classic design elements. The strength of the image is the "eye" at the center and the swirling images and colors surrounding it. Having said that, I'm not sure that the reflection adds anything to the image. |

Richard,
What a terrific reflection shot. you got really llucky having the water so calm! The lighting is spot on as well! You got great sharpness in the feathers and the eye. Nailed it! The crop is also spot on. About all that I can suggest is that you reduce the tonality of the orange branch above the bird's head. |

Larry,
As always, we learn a lot about the environment from your descriptions. This is a good action shot with the bird lifting off. I think you got suitable blur in the background, but you could blur it even more. I'm interested in learning more about what Matt K's noise reduction system, is. I've found that Topaz denoise is superior to LRC and quicker.
My only suggestions for improvement would be to shoot this at a faster shutter speed. The wings have a little bit of blur in them. also I might darken the bright spots between the bird's legs and feet. This is probably something in the background that is reflecting off the water. |

Cindy,
Wow you sure captured a terrific moment! Thanks for the explanation on how the bird flips the fish to get it to go down its throat head first! Terrific that you got the eye of both the bird and the fish very sharp! The blurred background is spot on. I also like that you have a sliver of blue surrounding the bird. No suggestions for improvement! |

Michael,
Sounds like a fun trip and thanks for the details about how the bird digests its food. Very unusual!
I thought the crop was appropriate and well done! I love that you caught one of the birds with its plumage in full display. It shows us the incredible colors in its feathers! Great! You also have the eyes of the birds in focus. About all I might suggest in the way of improvement would be to soften the background leaves a bit. You might try the new "blur" tool in LRC and see what you think. |
