Alan,
Great subject! I never got to the Pakouse, but now you have convinced me! Great subject and good idea to render it in B&W. Is this a sepia tone? I think I might have deepened the sky to emphasize those lovely wisps that you have going for you. |

Josh,
What an imaginative idea! Cat's eye! I like that it is at an angle. It might not have had the same appeal if you had the opening of the eye vertical. You must have been very close. Your f stop should have been plenty to capture more detail around the eye, but it is only harp where the black of the eye meets the yellow. I think I would have liked the entire yellow part to be sharp. You did a good job reducing the flash, so that it just looks like catch light. |

Mark,You are a brave person to take on event photography as a concert goer. I imagine it would have been easier with the performer one on one with you. I'm sure that is how the pros get those shots. What kind of a camera did you use? What were the settings? The rays of light are very dramatic! The singer's skin color is very good. That is the hardest part for me when I try this. I might reduce the highlights in the background a nit. |

Craig,
Thanks for reminding us of that place near St. Augustine. I haven't been there but club members have raved about it. I like that the angle of the bird's beak matches the angle of the branch he is standing on. Nice! The feathers on top of his head and to the right show the texture of his feathers. Great! I would like to see more detail in the white feathers behind his head. Shooting in an area wher the background foliage is so close to the bird is difficult. I'm not sure is going with an f stop of say f5.6 might have yielded more of a blurred background. Of course you can use the new tool in LRC to blur the background. |

Tyrah,
Well for your first tie, this looks terrific! I see relatively litle noise in the sky. I assume you used a noise reduction piece of swe to reduce it. Using a shutter speed of 20 seconds is about right. If you went any slower, the points of light would blur. I went on a workshop last year in Moab where they showed us how to shoot the milky way. The only thing I learned that might have helped this image was to take one iamge wheere you have a much longer exposure to reveal some of the deyail in the mountain and then the second shot would be this one. Then you blend the 2 together in ps. |

Tyrah,
Thanks for your thoughts on my picture. I kept cropping in further and further. Here is the original shot. What do you and others think? Should I have cropped it less? |

Bud,
I've never seen one of these guys in the wild. That must have been an exhilarating experience! My only comment is that the tail of the bird merges with the branch below. You might consider cloning out the branch. |

Richard,
I agree with others about the crop and removing the leaves and branches. You got a great image with the eye and feathers very sharp. |

Larry,
As always, your story about the image is as compelling as the image itself! I couldn't stop zooming in on the yellow circle around that eye! As others have said the diagonal orientation is great! Stay dry, Larry!! |

Cindy,
This is a great capture! You got the head, beak and eye in focus, along with the dragonfly. Like Larry, I would have thought that you had enough DOF to get more of the bird in focus, but you seized the moment with great results. I would not crop it down any further from the top, but you could try desaturating the green. |

Susan,
Your patience paid off! Great action shot! Hope you are feeling better!! I like the version that you shared better than the original edited one. That version seemed to take sharpness to the point of crunchiness. |

Michael,
When I first opened up this photo, my eye went immediately to the sun, but as others have pointed out, the rest of the sky does not add much interest. Suggest cropping it out. I agree with Bud that I did not realise that there was a stream flowing through the scene until I read your description. Try cropping out the lower third turn it into a B&W and see if you like that. This would emphasize the shapes or the dunes. |

Thanks for your kind words susan. The owners of the animals drive the animal to a location that is very natural so you never see a fence. It was a terrific experience. |
