Peggy,
Love New England covered bridges, especially in the fall. Looks like it was a fun trip. The gray of the side of teh bridge and rocks contrast nicely with the fall foliage! I think I would have stepped back a bit more, if that was possible, to get the opening of the bridge and put a bit more room between the far edge of the bridge and the edge of the frame. |

Stephen,
This is a great portrait of this raptor. I really like how you focused on the head and eyes! They are very sharp. Love how the bird's eyes are looking right at us! Well done. The background is soft and not competing with the subject. When I have visited raptor rehab centers, I try to get them to pose the bird on a tree branch, so I don't have the glove in frame, but most do not do that. |

Craig,
I don't do portraits very often, so perhaps I shouldn't weigh in on this one, but here goes anyway! I really like the positions of the heads of the two individuals and I am not bothered by the guy wearing sunglasses. It reinforces the :really cool" people theme! You've clipped both arms, so I am wondering if you might crop up from the bottom just under her bust. My greatest concern is the background, which I find distracting. But others may not! |

I agree with Alan and Craig that the foreground needs to be lightended. I did some of that, but obviously not near enough. Thanks for the confirmation. |

Thanks everyone for your thoughtful and candid comments. This was one of those examples where you wait and wait and wait for exactly the right moment and are so proud when you did., I waited for that cloud to be balanced on top of the grand Teton and it was! The problem was that the other cloud obscured the mountains. So, my lesson is even if you spent a lot of time getting the shot that doesn't mean it's a winner! |

Richard,
I agree with the others that this is a beautiful image! The bird is very sharp and the background is complementary and soft. I agree with Larry and others that the top should be cropped to eliminate the bright sky. |

Larry,
My hat's off to you on this shot and your wonderful explanation of how you got it! I have never gotten a lighting bolt shot! I live in an area that is crowded with trees and buildings. I thought the best bet was using one of those lightning triggers, but you have figured out a way to do it manually. What time of night was this? it must have been late if you could use 30 sec exposures. No suggestions for improvement. |

Cindy,
OK you've made me move antarctica higher up on my bucket list!! Great cmposition! I agree with others on this point. The diagonal of the stream mirrors the diagonal of the mountain. The large group of penguins in the lower left mirrors the mountain in the upper right! Just for fun you might try looking at this in B&W. |

Susan,
Birds in flight are one of the harest things to get right! So what if it is just a common crow! You caught this bird with its wings up and something (corncob?) in his/her mouth! That's great!! Your denoise software worked beautifully! Suggest that you sharpen the bird itself. It's sharp, but could be a touch sharper. The crop, I think went a bit too far. I'd suggest making it a horizontal image aith some more room in front of the bird, so that it has space to fly into (in our imaginations anyway!). |

Michael,
I agree with Larry's suggestions. Great patience to get a shot of such a rare bird! My only other suggestions for improvement would be to consider darkening the green closet to the bird. It would make the bird stand ouot more. |

Here is a cropped version of the image. Does this one appeal to you more than the one I submitted? |

Interesting observation. I guess I wanted to incluide the orange cloud because I thought it was beautiful and because it provided an orange reflection in the river below, but cropping might not be a bad idea! I wasn't sure how to provide an original image, since I took 4 images and merged them in HDR. |
