49 Nov 21 Comment Jo-Anne, What a spectacular moment! The upward surge of water looks like the people will be washed away in a tsunami! Pretty cool. What shutter speed did you use? Seems like a pretty fast speed, maybe 1/200? You could have gone even faster if you wanted to freeze the water drops in mid air. You might consider straightening out the horizon line. It is just a hair off. Having people in the photo gives us a perspective on how big the fountain was. Sorry that you had a competing fountain in the lower right and that you couldn't both have the photo centered on the platform, which it is, and also get those nice dark trees behind the entire splash. Can't control enverythig! Nov 16th
49 Nov 21 Comment Sylvia, What an exciting vista! I think you have captured the three layers very well. To give greater emphasis to the layers, you might use a gradient filter in LRC to darken the sky. You might even add a little more haziness to the furtherest cliff using LRC dehaze slider. Don't overdo it. You might work with the blue slider in LRC to see if you an add more drama to the sea. What a great memory! Nov 16th

67 Nov 21 Reply Thanks Michael, I like the idea of cropping some off of the bottom. Nov 22nd
67 Nov 21 Comment Bud,
Great portrait of the hawk. The head and eye are sharp and shows the intensity of the bird! Better luck nailing the squirrel next time!! Yah your shutter speed was pretty high, but it's the high IOS that is a problem in the original. You seem to have reduced most of the noise in post, but you could take another swipe at noise reduction. I also like Larry's idea about darkening the background.

67 Nov 21 Comment Richard,
Sounds like you had a fun trip! I'm in agreement with our colleagues in the group. The whites look blown out. Check the images you haver that may have darker white water. heck out Cindy's waterfall. She opted for the very slow shutter speed approach to flowing water. The other way to render moving water is to shoot much faster that you did to capture the water drops in mid air. I also like the crop that Jason suggested.

67 Nov 21 Comment Larry,
I think we are all enjoying your ventures on a lake that will never be named! This shot tells a great story about the owl trying to escape the spanish moss. You can clearly see it draped over the owl! Great capture and story. The only thing I would suggest is to tone down the bright areas below the owl. The tonality is very close to the owl itself. By making that background darker, you could help make the owl pop!

67 Nov 21 Comment Jason, This is a great subject! I've been collecting mushroom shots for some time. You have to get on the groupd to do them justice, which is what you did! Great job! Several of the mushrooms are in focus, but others are not, so Larry's suggestion about focus stacking seems in order. I would also clone out the spider webs, as they do not add to the story. I'm also bothered by some black blotches in the background. Not sure where they came from, but I would clone them out in PS. Nov 22nd
67 Nov 21 Comment Cindy,
You have done a wonderful job rendering the waterfall with to me is the right combination of smooth, silkiness and some clarity. Bravo! I would consider darkening the four corners. The bring green in the lower left and the bright log in the lower right pull my eye away from the waterfall. Also there are some spots in the upper left. I would also recommend toning down the green leaves in the upper right.

67 Nov 21 Comment Michael,
I/m very impressed with the sharpness of the fly. I'm sort of surprised more of the flower was not in focus, since you were at f8.0 I also like the idea of a square crop, reducing the left side of the photo. One problem I noticed was that since the bug's wings are transparent, they blend in with the petals of the flower behind. The only way to have reduced this is if you had shot the bug more head on instead of at an olique angle to the flower.

67 Nov 21 Reply Thanks for your sharp eyes, Larry. I'll run it through Topaz Sharpen! Nov 5th
67 Nov 21 Reply Cindy, I like your idea of a slight crop on the bottom to crop out some of the dead evergreens. I kept in the evergreens to give an anchor to the picture and to contrast with the fall colors. Thanks! Nov 4th
