49 Jun 21 Comment Thanks Stephen. I tend to tone down the highlights on just about all of my images. I will definitely look again at the original versus the version I displayed. Jun 28th
49 Jun 21 Comment Thanks Joanne. Not much post processing. Interesting that you saw the red one first. I guess I thought people would see the yellow one abouit to make the plunge first. Jun 22nd
49 Jun 21 Comment This is a place I visit often always in hopes of seeing kayakers. Tgat day I finally got Lucky! Jun 12th
49 Jun 21 Comment Looks like an intriguing interior and I like that you have two people in it. It give us a sense of dimension.

Areas for improvement. These kind of shots are always difficult because the significant dynamic range in the scene is beyond the capabilities of nearly everyone's camera. To try to solve that problem, I would take several shots on a tripod with different exposures and then combine them with LRC's HDR program. The other issue here is that the picture is badly titled. You can use LRC's transform functions to straighten things out.

49 Jun 21 Comment I agree with Alan. The bear is plenty sharp and has an interesting pose. I'd crop out most of the trees from the top and about a third off the left side. This will place the bear in the lower left corner where it will appear that he is looking up the stream going off to the upper right. Jun 11th
49 Jun 21 Comment What a spectacular sight! I've never been to these falls, but they look incredible! Compositionally, the line of the waterfall on the left leads you into the picture! Well done!
Areas for Improvement. You elected to go with a 30sec exposure with probably something like a 10 stop GD filter. It give a very dreamy effect to the scene. I would encourage you to shoot an epic scene like this with a variety of shutter speeds. My favorite for waterfalls is 1/4 or 1/5 sec. You might also try putting a slight vignette on it. You can do this in LRC.

49 Jun 21 Comment Good shot at trying to do a portrait with rembrandt lighting. I think your own critique is spot on. the triangle shadow isn't quite where you want it.
Areas for Improvement. While the eyes seem pretty sharp, the sharpness falls off pretty quickly. I try to focus on a spot between the eyes to be sure that the eyes are in focus. The subject is not quite looking at the camera. I know its your son who was probably compelled to do this, so that makes it tough. Perhaps find a more willing subject and get a more interesting pose. For lighting I recommend a studio type light with a soft box. Then you can see exactly what the lighting is doing to the subject.

67 Jun 21 Comment Richard thanks for pointing out that spoton the stump. No it's not meat, so I will work to clone it out. I like the crop that Larry suggested to get the animal off dead center. Jun 12th
67 Jun 21 Comment Great capture! You have the mom feeding her chcks in the nest. I'm particularly impressed with how much detail you have in the white feathers. At high noon that's hard to do. Seems like you must have had an overcast day. The crop worked well.
Areas for improvement. You might consider darkening the white flowers around the bird to give greater emphasis to the birds. You may have a second good picture here as well if you crop it down to just the eyes in the nest. They form a nice triangle. Can't be sure if you have enough pixels to pull that one off though. You probably don't need to go with 1/3000sec for your shutter speed. For a nesting scene like this you could probably get away with say 1/1500 sec, then your ISO could be lower. Just a thought.

67 Jun 21 Comment This is really a gorgeous shot! Compositionally, I loive how the foam streaks in the foreground take you right into the picture! Well Done!
Suggestions for improvement. I might have experimented with several different shutter speeds. You went with 1/20 and it produced a fine result, but what if you had tried 1/5 sec or 1 sec? Just a thought. I'm surprised that you got as much sharpness in the image with f2.8. Finally, check the horizon line. To my eye it seems a little tilted to the left.

67 Jun 21 Comment Thanks, Larry for your thoughts. Yes, I could give a little more room on the bottom for the animal's foot. Still trying to decide about the additional portion of the stump. If I leaved it in as you have shown, then there is an interesting diagonal line from the head of the lynx to the lower right corner. Hmmmm.

BTW, in the interests of full disclosure, I went to an outfitter that has animals like this in captivity. The outfitter takes them to a natural location and distracts the animal while a group of photographers get to shoot pix.

67 Jun 21 Comment Wow what a moment! You've got the eyes of both birdsw sharp and have all of each bird in the frame. The feathers on each are sharp too. So I would hate to see this end up on the cutting room floor!

Suggestions: If you want to keep the crop as is, then take the image into LR or PS and burn down all of those distracting bright colors all around the birds, especially the portion above the bird on the right. Another option would be to crop it tightly on just the heads of the two birds.
