Beautiful capture and save of an otherwise dreary iconic scene. I love your point of view that captures the beautiful structure and curvature of the bridge. I love arches.
Your efforts in post processing really paid off.
Well done.

Hi Stanley. I like what you tried to do with this composition. My thought, though, is that it's not quite a silhouette (you can still see some detail in the tower as well as the foreground) and it's not quite full range of what the viewer would actually be seeing as they were standing there.
I'm guessing that you probably used the cameras general "matrix" metering to capture this image. That creates an "average" light value between light and darks.
A suggestion would be to use "Spot" metering on a bright area of the sky close to (but not on) the sun, then using that exposure information to reset your settings to produce either darks with more detail (ie., tower and foreground) or darker darks (ie., silhouette) depending on your preference.

Beautiful Image, Karen. The softness exudes warm, calm emotions.
Your image is probably on the upper limit of whiteness (without being blown out) on the tops of the petals, but I feel like the entire rest of the image could benefit from additional brightening.
This would look great on any wall.
PS - I thought about you on my way to and from the Alligator Farm (where I took my submitted image this month) on my way past Palm Coast.

With a like mind, I too am a fan of floating feathers. I have taken numerous images of them over the years. Each time I'm out at my favorite local preserve, I always look in the small lake(s) for floating feathers worthy of photographing. I, generally, only see flight feathers that are flat in the water. Yours has the 3rd dimension to it and has a beautiful reflection that adds so much to this image.
I might suggest cropping in a bit to make the feather a bit more prominent. I do like the sight offset from center, though.
Well done.

This is a WOW image, Piers. Very interesting; very colorful; very impressionistic.
I have tried my hand at ICM a little bit but without much success. I need to be more systematic in my approach - like you've been. This is an inspiration for me to go out and try again.
Well done! |

Thanks for your comments, Shirley.
One of the things I like best about the Alligator Farm is how close you can get to many of the resting/nesting birds at, otherwise, are at quite a distance. Some nesting birds are so close to the boardwalk that you can (but please don't) literally, reach out and touch them.
The colors in the breeding plumage is just stunning. |

Thanks for your comments, Piers.
Coincidentally, AFTER I submitted this image to Martin, I looked at the image again and saw that I did, indeed, miss brightening up that one leg. I also toned down some of the brightness from the background streaks. |
