Martin, you've done it again...your human storytelling continues with this great study of (another) one of your workers.
I like the crop, I like the darkening of the jacket, and I like his expression. The background as well as the fire in the bucket tell a great story. well done. |

Very interesting image, Stanley.
I find it incredible that the primary actors face is the only portion of the image that does not have a blur of some sort.
I love the colors.
Well done with your intentional camera movement. |

What a great idea, Karen. I really like the composition with the umbrella.
The long exposure really works well with the water.
I'd like to suggest a project - since it's so close to your home - of being there when the rest of the pier starts being torn down. Try to capture the same scene from the same location with the 15 second exposure and bring the digital umbrella into each processed image. |

Lucky you to be able to capture a lightning strike on your phone. Was it on a tripod or braced on a stationary deck railing?
Like Karen pointed out, I, too, noticed the halo effect. It's frustrating trying to balance the benefits of Sharpening or Texture/Clarity with the halo becoming too prominent. Lately, with advancements in masking technology, the Landscape --> vegetation mask has become increasingly better at defining the boundaries, but it's still not always perfect.
Well done with the capture. |

Piers, I did a quick search on the Wichita Mountains Wildlife refuge and quickly realized it is a place I would like. Since it's run by the US Fish and Wildlife Service, is there a fee to enter, and if so, can you use your Ntl. Park Pass to get in for free?
I'm a bit puzzled by your composition and what you are wanting the viewer to see. The two very dark diagonals in the foreground first caught my eye. My initial thought was to bring up the shadows, but looking further, I realized that there is no primary point of focus. The gravel trail seems to end abruptly; the exact center of the image is a slight protrusion from the cliff face, but not an extraordinary feature in itself....
I like what you did in "post" to the upper left triangle to bring out a bit more drama to the skies and water, but that is only about 1/3 of the image and only a portion of what you're wanting to convey to the viewer. |

Hi Karen, Thanks for your comments.
I've found myself naturally "seeing" these types of minimalistic scenes more readily as of late. I like that.
There's a large part of me that very much likes the sepia-toned natural sand version, too. It helps tell the story of the setting better, I think. But, without the explanation and supporting images showing the snow/sand banding, it doesn't mean much. |

Thanks for your response, Piers.
I see what you are referring to regarding the slight blue and brown cast within the image. If I ever do get around to printing this as a BW, I will certainly address those color concerns. Not sure what happened with the supporting images being a different size than the image submitted. I downsized then all at the same time. I just looked at them and could enlarge/shrink them for full screen viewing on my PC by holding down the Ctrl key and scrolling the mouse wheel to make the image fit the screen. |

Hi Shirley. I'm smiling at how you envisioned my precarious situation in the windy and snowy environment....
For clarification, this setting was in a wooded area that was relatively flat. It was on a bluff overlooking Lake Michigan. It was not on open dunes.
Despite the wind and cold, we were dressed for the weather and not in peril.
So glad you like this minimalistic view. Which version do you like best... the BW version or the natural color version?
