Terri,
A lot of avid birders have distain for the standard "bird on a Stick" portrait. This is one that, I feel, doesn't fit neatly into that category.
I LOVE the story with the rain and the truncated branch with great foliage flowing from it. Beautiful bird. Well exposed and nice streaking raindrops.
If it were mine, I'd print this and hang it on my wall.
Well done! |

Tor,
Lucky you to be able to be so close on the floor - and then having all characters in the frame looking your way.
Wonderful color.
Very nice image.

Thanks for the suggestion, Shirley.
I did try the square format and then tilted the image to have more of a diagonal flow of the flowers. Plus, I toned down the remaining dead leaves in the upper corner.
Overall, I think that I prefer the longer/taller row of flowers to give a better sense of the overall woodland scene, but I appreciate your input. |

Thanks for your comments, Karen.
As you can tell from the original vs the presented image, I did darken those 2 right corners from the light-colored leaves. So, I was conscious of their ability to draw the eye away from the main subject. I agree they could be darker. Next time I'll do a bit of leaf/debris removal before clicking the shutter.

WOW. I'm curious as to what this person was doing. Was this a quick sequence of images or were they captured over a few minutes time?
I looks like you're having a great time with your street photography. The colored version certainly brings out the body art while the red top catches the viewers eye. So, the colored version would be my preference. |

Karen,
I, too, have really started in the world of flower photography - especially in a macro mode.
Your Dahlia image is wonderful. I like the context of the out of focus smaller bud to give the image more context.
The softened background treatment works well to keep the viewers eye on the main flower.
Again, that's something I've been working on myself in my own flowers images.
Well done. |

Shirley, This looks like an image that I certainly would have taken as well.
I love reflections and the occasional distortion they produce.
I like the editing treatment you've done. The foreground ramp and railings give the first indication that we're viewing a reflection. But, I feel that the diagonal brick sidewalk leads the viewers eye out of the image.
If the crop were brought up high enough to eliminate the low wall (at the base of the tree) on the left side, it would create a completely different image focusing on the buildings and the play of distortion on them.
Just a thought.
