Martin,
I love the phrase you used to describe Alan...rugged kindness.
Since I'm a bit late to the game this month, I get to feed off of the other comments, your response, and re-editing of the posted image. I like the additional space on Alans left collar/shoulder. The colored version is wonderful.
The left eye is the window to his soul.
Well done. |

Terri,
The first viewing of this image gave me a "Whoa!" response.
It is striking.
Very well planned and timed to capture the woman at that instant. That goes to your artistic vision.
The BW treatment works extremely well here, and very nice to see Lance's take (ie., very different crop) on the same image.
well done. |

Welcome to our group, Tor.
I like the ethereal look of a forest in fog, especially when there are multiple layers of trees poking through the whiteness. I like the addition of the geese to add something to the lower half of the image, but feel that they are too small to help carry the interest in that area.
I played around with the image and came up with a square-ish crop that adds another diagonal aspect to the image by countering the location of the flock of geese (lower right) with the farthest layer of trees in the upper left.
It's just a thought, but, I feel it makes for a stronger image. |

Karen, I know exactly where this image was taken. I've got a few similar shots, including 2 different times I've been on the water in front of this fort. I'm heading back up to St Augustine in a few days with camera in hand. Hoping the weather cooperates.
I like this morning perspective with the soft light on the horizon. You've done a good job of (slightly) lightening the tower and the trees in your revision. That works well.
Well done. |

Very nice capture, Shirley.
Since I'm a bit late to the show this month, I note that you've taken measures to implement to suggestions that others have already referenced. The crop and lightening of the eye area are wonderful.

Piers, My initial response to seeing this image was to laugh out loud, since this is a scene (most people) don't see every day - or ever. Nice low perspective and timing.
The crop was needed and well executed. The sky replacement is great, too. Kudos for editing the roosters face to lighten it and bring out some detail.
Fun image! |

Karen,
Sorry so late to respond to all the comments on my image. They are all appreciated.
I've taken all the suggestions and have produced an edited version that lightens the central "oval" of palm leaves, eliminated the 5th tree jutting in from the left edge, and subdued the brightness of the lights on the trees.
(I had to crop in from the left to eliminate the 5th tree since the generative fill in Photoshop could not correctly discern the extent of the palm fronds I wanted removed.)
The modified image is attached to Terri Adcocks post, above. |
