Thank you for your comments, David.
I, too, grew up in a Chicago suburb and went to the MSI multiple times when we were living there, but it has been a long time since we moved away. Actually, the Burlinton train line (that this train traveled on) was immediately behind our property.
I'm already having this image printed.
Glad you liked it, too. |

Welcome home. Sounds like a wonderful trip.
I love the spontaneity and genuine smiles of this image, but I also would have loved to see the version with all 3 giving the "thumbs-up" - if there weren't others in the background that prove to be distracting. So, good crop.
Nice color and texture and being in the right place/right time. |

Piers, You've captured a bit of history. Scenes like this with aging barns in disrepair are all to common. I agree that the yellow color is a bit unusual - for anything - it may have come down to paint(s) that the farmer had left over from other projects and may have even mixed multiple left-overs together to produce this shade. I like this version - without the cows and the white post/rails of the fence, which I find distracting.
The sky that you've added seems to mirror the grayness of the overall scene (with the darkness of the clout) and the essence of the demise of the barn.
Your 2nd sky replacement (to Shirleys comments) ads a cheerier note, but you know which effect you were going for.

This is a very nice ethereal-looking image, Shirley kind of like a dream sequence.
There are times I like to play around with images such as this to provoke a soft feeling. You've done well.
I hope you've showed this to her - or even given her a print of it.
It is print-worthy. |

Shirley,
Thanks for the comments.
I, too, grew up in a Chicago suburb, but have been gone from there for a very long time, now. The Burlington train tracks were right behind the house I grew up in. We used to go to the MSI on field trips, too. Great place.
This train exhibit was enclosed to look like a train station, so it was not out in the open amongst other exhibits. That, alone, provided the setting. |
