Thank you for your comments, Lance.
I had you in mind as I was processing this - relating back to previous conversation we had.
I was finally able to read your article (on B&W) in the PSA Journal. I may have found a new niche to explore. |

It's an investment in your photographic growth. You won't regret it. |

Susan, my opinion is that if you are at all serious about photography, and want to grow in the craft, then post processing is a huge part of the equation - like it or not.
I subscribe to the Adobe Creative Cloud package which includes, most importantly, Lightroom and Photoshop. If you're not familiar with them, you need to start with Lightroom and learn how to edit your images. It's a powerful tool that can be as basic or as complex as you chose. There are hundreds of classes - live and online to teach them .

Martin, your crop is exactly what/how I would have done. The busyness (ie., clutter) of the signage is gone, so the viewer can focus more readily on the story you are trying to convey. Despite the two main people - the woman walking and the man in the poster ad looking at "you" - one can tell there is still a great deal of activity in this section of the shopping area because of the reflections of numerous people in the windows. Those reflections add quite a bit to this story.
Well done. |

Welcome to our group, Susan.
I love the feistiness that the brown horse conveys. It's apparent that the white horse has been the target for this antic before. So, its a great story, well captured. I do like Martins tight crop that eliminated much of the extra visuals that really do not add anything to this story. It's about the feistiness.
Post processing is a large part of photography. The better you get at it, the more your image-making will improve and to more fun photography will be. |

Great action image, Shirley. Great crop. It is interesting to see all 4 horses off the ground. The addition of the tents/canopies adds a bit of heraldry to this event, despite the fact that there are no people occupying the tents. LIke others have referenced, the blue sky is lacking excitement, so its a contrast to the excitement/action shown on the track. I think Martins crop was a bit too aggressive and the flags at the peaks of each tent should (at least) be left visible.
well done. |

I'm laughing.
I like the replaced sky, however, once it's cropped in, there is very little blue, and the sky looks like it's an overcast day. So, my suggestion would be to move your replaced sky around a bit so that blue appears (relatively) prominently in the cropped version.
It still looks like my lunch is this gulls next target!

I LOVE the tight crop.
It offers a menacing look that strikes a bit of fear in the heart of anyone who has ever lost a french fry or sandwich to a marauding, opportunistic gull. I, personally, can relate to that - could you tell?
I prefer the original color to the monochrome. But, towards that, I would have brought out more of the yellow in the beak and the legs.
The light and shadows are wonderful. I love the detail in the feathers.
Well done. |

Thank you for your comment, Piers. Your comments regarding the many compositional elements were a driving force in capturing (and cropping) as I did. I'll take the sugggestion(s) for increasing the blacks prior to printing it. |

Thank you for your comment, Shirley. This is one that will likely get printed on Aluminum so your suggestion of increasing the Blacks will be strongly considered before sending it off to be printed. |
