Thank you for you comments, Suesan.
Actually, I truly prefer the origninal with subdued colors, but wanted to see how the BW version fared amongst this group.
Welcome to our group.
I just returned to my northern home today. We are "seasonal" in Ft Myers. Where are you located in FL? |

Martin, The story is based around the crop. Well done!
When I initially viewed the image, I saw the green sign near the back door referencing the Beer Garden. I thought that was an important part of the story, but then noticed the other clutter around that area, and decided that your final crop was best.
Your final image appears to be a bit "noisy", so I'd suggest cleaning that up a bit before submitting it for competition. Wonderful image, overall. |

What a fun assignment.
I, too like to see the entire piece of equipment, especially when it is so unique to us today. The shapes and lines of the uppermost portions of each side really add to the "story" of the novelty of your find. For those reasons, My preference would be original 2. Plus, it actually looks like it was found in a barn.
As Martin pointed out, you (assumedly) had to work with available light. You did a great job taming shadows and bringing out the detail in each of the keys and all the mechanism.
Well done! |

What a fun image. The 3rd horse really takes some looking to see - even the 4 extra legs are not easy to spot.
I now have a son and his family living in the Lexington, KY area. Just down the road from them is a sister horse race track to Louisville's Churchill Downs. We were there last year on Derby Day. That track was nearly as frenzied as Churchill Downs. It was a fun place to be, so I have an increased interest in horse racing.
So glad you were able to capture this image. It didn't take much to be able to get to your final image - except that there are artifacts on the "rail" - just ahead of the 3-horse pack - where you cloned out the tail of the leading horse. |
