Martin,
Well done with what you had to work with. I love it!
I had to enlarge the original image to see why you darkened all except the sky. Then it became clear when I saw a person and a roadbed.
The ONLY distracting part is the lack of sharpness to the foreground grasses, but I certaily understand the 'why" behind that.
Nice effort! |

Jaqueline,
I'm early in my photographic journey with birds, but I'm learning more each day.
I feel that the background is part of the story. I like the light on the left wing with just a slight bit of blur at the wingtips.
You've got the crop so that the bird is on the left and is flying into the image. I feel that a bit more brightening of the eye could be of benefit.
Congratulations.

Congratulations on a nice image, Karen. My initial reaction to the image was a very gentle feeling and sharing a bond. It evoked that wonderful reaction. I felt the light was a bit flat, but after seeing Martins manipulation of light, then adding more image content to the left, it has become even better.
Congratulations.

Hung,
This is a wonderful image that tells a story love and passion. The flowers on the stage add to the story. I agree with others, though, that the large white feature on the stage left is distracting. Cloning it out is beneficial.
Congratulations. |

Shirley,
I like what you did with the sky replacement. I like Piers suggestion of removing one plane and leaving three.
However, as one who also loves air shows, I feel pretty confident that there would have been additional flying acrobatics that might have more of a WOW factor - instead of three (or 4) similar planes flying in formation, straight and level. I feel that submitting this image in your clubs competition will land a mediocre score.
My apologies for bluntness, but I'd like to think that you have other images from that day that would be closer to a WOW! |

Piers,
I, too, like to photograph steel bridges. One of my sons lives in Pittburgh, PA (steel city), home to 472 steel bridges within its city limits, so, I have similar images and similar fascination.
Personally, I like the BW version with the added clouds. The brute strength of the steel seems to lend itself to the BW treatment. I like the suggestion of coloring (only) the cyclist, but feel that it doesn't have any impact because of the lack of vibrant colors in clothing and helmet.
Overall, a nice image! |

To Martin, and all PSA DIgital Dialogue (group 02) members re: your comments to my image....
My apologied for slow response, but I've been traveling this past week and haven't had access to my normal communication channels. This is intented to respond to all of you.
I do, truly, appreciate the comments and attempts at modifying my image in an affort to make it more appealing. I certainly understand the nature of many of the responses as it being "too busy". In part, that was one factor that led me to like this scene, but thanks to your response(s), I now better understand how the busy-ness can be detrimental to the overall appeal - especially by a judge.
I have no problem with a fellow group member taking my image and working it towards their own vision of what might help make it better. That's part of the learning process - seeing how others react to a scene.
I am relatively new to this group, but enjoy what I have experienced. Thank you for you input. |
