Sherry...very unique lighting one this one. It almost looks like the light is coming from under the bird...but that can't be true!
Do you remember what direction the light was coming from? |

I definitely get the theme here when you explain it, but at least to my eyes, it's not as obvious without the explanation. Or, perhaps I may be the only one that doesn't recognize fireweed when. I see it :)

John; I'm just sort of learning landscape photography and I hear a lot about having a good foreground and a focal point in the photo.
Would you consider your trees the foreground in this shot, and the river as the focal point? |

This is a new insect to me as well!
Beautiful colors, but I agree with Gwen's initial observation that the left side of the creature (especially the whites) seem a little blown-out.

This is as close a level of detail of a heron swallowing a fish that I've seen!
Curious:
-was this handheld or on a tripod?
-How did you find using the 2x tele? I rarely use my tc's on my 400mm f/2.8, but I find that unless there is a lot of light, they really slow down acquisition of focus.
