There is a lot written about the red jungle fowl in Hawaii, especially on Oahu. Many of those sources are mainland newspapers whose writers were on vacation in Hawaii for a week or two.
I lived in Hawaii, on Oahu, for nearly 25 years. The red jungle fowl is not a native species. That said, they are far from domesticated. Hurricane Iwa in 1982 affected Kauai and windward Oahu, destroying many domestic chicken pens. These contained roosters bred for cock fighting, a local sport. This began the feral chicken explosion on both islands. The genetic combination of red jungle fowl and fighting cocks created a hybrid chicken population that continues to run free.
Because I had bird feeders in my backyard, I had at one time 47 wild chickens. How I solved that problem is too long a story to cover here.
The red jungle fowl is not a domesticated animal. They roam free. I would like to see PSA board member chase and
catch one. Still a pretty bird. Cheers, Bud
