David, when I saw this shot, I wondered how he managed to reach the high Himalayas. I agree with most of what's been said above. I love these cats. I would have kept its tail. |

Hi Cindy, Distance to subject and distance to background control DOF, as does Aperture. I always have FX/DX set to a front button so I can switch instantly. It would have been nice to have the whole bird in focus. But, in the heat of the moment, the clarity and acuity of the image with the bird's face and dragonfly are outstanding. |

Susan: You truly amaze me on so many levels. If you look back to when you joined the group and compare your current state as a nature photographer, you have improved by leaps and bounds. Your commitment to learning the craft is truly admirable. Don't let it get in the way of your overall health, though. If you are sick or injured, you won't be taking photos.
You are taking all comments to heart and making instant corrections, learning each step of the way.
I have never seen this GBH interaction, and I have been photographing them for years. I even have a winter rookery of 40+ GBHs within ¼ miles of my house. Well done!!! Now, take good care of yourself! |

Yep, I would lose the sun and crop the sky way down to emphasize the subject-the Great Sand Dune. I'm sorry, but even doing that, the image lacks something from this perspective. The stream is lost here. Perhaps going down low and shooting up across the stream might have provided a lower frame and a perspective showing the massiveness of the dune. |

Richard: I love everything about your bird. Great action shot. Crystal clear and sharp. At the risk of Larry's wrath and knowing you wouldn't be able to enter competition, I played with Generative Ai in LRC to remove the skewering blades. |

Yep, going to one knee is a great strategy. It makes for a bite-sized chunk! Looks like you have a whole lot of rain headed your way right now. You have a great gator photo. Stay dry now. |
