I tried a little different approach by darkening the background a bit with a grad filter and sharpening the feet. We can fool around with these photos all day and lose perspective, so I appreciate all the input. And, yes I see that doesn't look natural. |

Hi Terry: I really like this shot and think you accomplished your desired effect with B&W. You might have shot wide open at f/4.5 to blur the background somewhat. The Monstera leaves in the back of the image detract a bit from the pirate and the giant. Or, you could have blurred them in PS later. All in all, a good shot! |

Hi Joan: I like your finished image. It leaves plenty for the imagination as it sets the scene for an expanding narrative. I have been on the bayous on such mornings and you never know what is around the next bend or what you will find when the mist rises. I would print and hang this one! |

This is a great photo! I had to go back to the original to determine this is a woman's left hand and not a marble statue. Well done! |

Walter - With that large a sensor and a 400mm lens, it does not take much to introduce blur into your photos. I'm pretty sure there is nothing loose in your camera. Almost certainly your problem here is camera shake. There are a number of physical ways to eliminate that: 1) as you said a solid tripod/ball head 2) a beanbag alone or with a panning plate 3) against your arm on your car's window sill or roof. Additionally, with your setup, I would definitely shoot in manual mode and raise your ISO/shutter speed, and if you need to, raise your EV by 1-2 stops. That should eliminate the camera-shake problem and result in much sharper images. In post-processing, the best software on the market right now is Topaz DeNoise/Topaz Sharpen. |

I was scrambling because I arrived at the nest just as action began. Having no time to set up my tripod, I fired continual long bursts handheld as the ospreys circled and interacted. I cannot tell you enough how much I am loving the Z9 and all the Z lenses. Fabulous gear! |

Yep! I have them all, feeders, suet hangers, hummingbird feeders, and even the hollow at the top of one driftwood log. Now I just need weather and time. |

Hi Richard - I just finished setting up a similar area in my backyard with some driftwood I picked up at the local beach at low tide. I hope I get a variety here as well. Really like what you have done here. Keep shooting! |

Beautiful colors, great feather detail, terrific expression. It tells the story like an old-time character (like one of the Marx brothers) pacing with his hands behind his back. Love these little guys! |

Mothers with babies are my favorite subjects. Nicely done here. I agree with Larry; a little masking on the lower right to shade that brightness would help. A VERY slight mask on the baby's face to lighten very, very slightly would make those eyes bore through your soul. |

I'm a little confused. Is Original 2 a separate photo, I do like its background much better. It's very difficult to use an artificial sky with a bird in flight, especially such a colorful bird. I like Original 2 and would only remove the one very distracting grass strand on the lower right.
I'll be in SW Kenya in August and hope to see a lot of these while there! |

Tough hike for a tough shot, Michael! I think I would probably have laid on my back with the camera pointing up the log at the waterfall so I could catch what was on top as it cascaded over the... (Hah)!
Love the waterfall. Silky tendrils of water snaking from the rocks to the pool! Very nice. |

David - love the shot! I can hear the stream rushing by as I look at your image. Can't ask for more than that. 😉 |
