I took all your advice. Toned down the green, upped the red in the cottage reflections slightly, cut the foliage down from the top. Here's the do-over: |

Me too, Alan! I have five trips booked starting in June. Hope I'm not overly optimistic. |

That must have been exciting getting into a position to take such a photo. I think you might have done a little better if you had increased Exposure Value (EV) +2.0 and shutter speed to 1/640 to stop action. |

Hello Walter: Don't be disheartened. Cormorants are difficult to photograph, especially in flight. They are dark, wet, and fast. I have a flock of them each morning behind my house and I shoot them every day for practice. I have yet to get an acceptable picture even with a tripod and different camera setups. - My advice is to try another subject. |

I like the cropping and the image doesn't look over-processed to me. You did a great job bringing up the color and definition in the juvenile feathers. Nice work on the eye and the catchlight as well. Separating the flamingo from the background makes a very nice presentation. |

I agree with the importance of leaving positive space in an animal photo giving an appearance of freedom of movement. Nice capture of a beautiful creature with an amazing coat. |

A beautiful, brilliantly sharp photo of a flower I've not seen before. The shadows and shades of green you captured and brought out in your post-processing are terrific. |

High praise indeed. Thank you very much Richard. I did enter it in a large photo contest outside of PSA after all your comments. First time I've ever done so. I'm curious as to how it will fare. Appreciate your encouragement. |

Hello Rich - Love the photo! The D500 is a great camera for BIF and you really nailed this shot! Congrats on handholding and getting so sharp a shot at that focal length. I'm envious because I'm afraid my days of handholding are pretty much over. Well done. |

Larry - I think I might crop in from the left side and trim the large rock on the left. The breathtaking part and what draws my eyes into the photo is the path of light from the rising dawn over the ocean and the main rock to the blurred water. I think I would center that light path. Its glow is mystical.
I love my D850 with the 24-70mm f/2.8 - what a great rig! |

Hi Todd: I love snow-covered trees as a photo subject and know how difficult they can be to capture, especially on a dark day when it's snowing. I love the detail you have been able to bring out on the pines, but the dull grayness of the background deadens the image for me. I think the cloudy skies Tom has suggested, absent the snowflakes, adds a lot of character to the photo and makes the trees really stand out. You may want to try adding this. |

Hello Michael. I love this photo and how it draws my eyes up this broad valley to the mountains. When I see a picture like this, it draws me in and I forget to look at the photo details. This one makes me want to head back to Alaska! |

Jason - this is an interesting photo. As a retired aviator the banding appears to me the eagle is about to break the sound barrier. I know that wasn't on purpose and I roger for all the previous comments. Nonetheless, any time you can catch a sharp photo of an eagle in flight with a fish in its talons, you have had a good day.
