Since 3 people mentioned presenting a tulip in a vertical shot, I got to thinking that it's the unusual shot that gets noticed. So, why not keep the horizontal treatment but crop it differently. I also tilted it. The whole point of Gavin's photo was the raindrops. The tulip's stem or even the change of coloring near the stem are actually distractions. What do you think of my different crop? |

Ah oui, la tristesse! And minimalism. I can see the lady hunched over and braving the rain. I think the just barely visible texture adds interest to the sky. I think it is very impactful to have the lady in the center of the photos (centered from left to right). I really like the image. It has an engaging mood. I connect with the lady. |

Hi Jerry, It isn't often that the topic seems impossible for us! We are allowed to improvise! Maybe you have a rainy day photo taken on a trip. Maybe you have some dark cloud photos but without rain, and you could call it "your" rainy day. |

Oooh, ooow, I feel the awful weather on these people! I think the framing with the tree works well because the leaves are sharp and not just a big blur. When I clicked on the photo and saw it a little bigger and without any distracting text and stuff, I noticed the background out in the ocean. I think the use of f/11 helped keep this element and the other boat sharp enough to be of interest. |

This is an awesome catch of a really ominous sky and the bright sunlight on the foreground! The boat in the foreground is level but the ocean is not level. Might be a lens distortion. I tried to fix the horizon in Photoshop with Distort, but I lost a lot of the sky. The turquoise water is great! I wonder where the camera focused. It's too bad our cameras don't record that info. I'm thinking that a higher f/stop would have improved this image. |

It is remarkable how you captured the lightning images. I find your finished image to be marvelous as well as scary! Thank you for explaining your technique. I really like your final image. |

I am captivated by the raindrops! What a great reward for going out on a rainy day! I think the faint light coming down from the top creates a moody atmosphere. I wish the whole image were brighter and the distracting green item at the bottom right were gone...so here's my interpretation of your expressive image and hope I didn't take away the mood. |

Administrator Carole - Here's the photo Walter mentions above. I thought I'd share it with you here. Remember he's not looking for critiques. But you might want to say something. Remember you can click ONCE on the photo and see it larger! |

Thank you, Bill, for coming to our website. We appreciate your comment. As a former French teacher, I can tell you that "la tristesse" means sadness in French! |
