I'm intrigued by using an actual photo of a snow globe. I'm trying to figure out why it looks more like a glass disc than a sphere. I wonder how it would look if the entire house was visible, like a miniature house inside a dollhouse, and if the land on which the house sat filled the entire bottom of the disc, and if the snowflakes filled even more of the space all the way around. I thought the wide rectangle shape of the image had too much blank area on either side, so here's an idea of what it would look like with less blank area.
We are sorry to see you leave our group! Thanks for your images and "how I did it" descriptions. I'm sure we each learned something new. Enjoy your new group over at Group 4. We'll enjoy your photos from there! |

On second thought, a broom with a long handle like yours would be a great way to push the snow off a car! I always use a short-handled one. And here's my edited photo. I rotated your image to try to get rid of the large area of floor at the upper right. Someone mentioned your dark boots, so I used Shadows to produce the detail. And now I think the snow in your picture shows up better, too. |

The snow photo with cars gives me the feeling of a nasty snow storm that is going to cause so many driving headaches. I think the very slight tilt to that photo adds some drama to it and helps to emphasize the uneasy feelings we must face when driving in that weather.
The 2nd photo does make a complete story. Funny thing, though, is that if that were my photo, there would be a big snow shovel instead of the brooms! And my boots don't look so pretty and fancy! |

I'm so happy you shared this ice with us. I'll never travel to Iceland now that I don't travel anymore, but I have seen something similar in Alaska. It's truly amazing in person. And your photo is wonderful. I especially like the fact there is more than one texture of ice. Those 3 layers add so much interest to your capture. |

You are giving us "nice" weather! Feels strange here in the freezing mid-west. I like the curving path to the gazebo. I liked your image the way you had it, but when I read the other comments, I decided to see what would happen if I added warmth with the color temperature and cropped. Then I fiddled with Clarity, Vibrance, Highlights, Whites, the various colors. Because I was using the Camera Raw filter in Photoshop, I could deal with individual colors, so I removed the purple in the sidewalk and decreased the luminance of the green (grass) and blue (sky) to darken them a little. Was aiming to make the gazebo more of the main subject. Can you see any difference from the original? It should be fairly subtle. |

Oh, yes, this is what I grew up with all winter in Michigan. Now in Kansas which is farther south, I see this only once every year or so. I especially like the big hunk of dirty icy snow, because that is so very realistic in this kind of weather. And, of course, the all dragon teeth are special! I'd say this is a great weather shot with all the aspects of trying to drive! |

The background has some white areas, and white areas draw the eye to them. That's why I prefer to avoid having them in my backgrounds, even blurry ones.
I chose the larger frame because of our black background. When I use just a little frame, like a single pixel stroke, it looks lost to me. I also wanted the color variation to show up. |

I, too, wished for less centeredness. But I couldn't figure out another composition that didn't distort the flower, like looking up from the bottom of it. I find it hard not to center flowers when I want to see the entire thing. And, you're right, it was cold, and I didn't want to stand there for too long.
And I did undertake the photo outing because of the weather. It was done on purpose for that very reason. That's why I used this photo for this assignment. My photo outing was my self-made assignment for that day, and the topic was "unusual snowfall." |

Oh, Walter, I hadn't thought of that! It does have facial features! Glad you enjoyed it. Photos are supposed to give people a feeling of some kind. I tend to take images without much feeling. I give the credit to the crazy weather! |

When I look at snow in person, I don't see detail everywhere. So I don't always reduce the brightness to make it show up artificially. I have done that before, and I don't always like that look. That's why the image looks like it does. |

Very nice exposure and just the right amount of Lightroom tweaking. I like to take moon shots, too. The 2nd full moon in January is coming up, and maybe you'll have clear skies so you can do this again but with a full moon. Those really sharp areas are always there and make the rest of the moon seem to have soft focus. As far as I know, the rest of the moon never looks as sharp as those areas at the edge. |

The green is probably a fringe. He could remove it in Lightroom or Photoshop. I do it all the time. Usually, mine is blue or magenta. |

His image must be cropped. I can't get this image without cropping with a 400 mm lens. But I can get this close-up with my 1200 mm lens on my Canon PowerShot SX50 which has a 50x magnification. |

Gavin has added the following information for his photo:
This was one of the full moon nights where it requires staying up late to catch it at its largest, then turning autofocus off and doing the focus manually. The Lightroom in are 1/60 f/11 ISO 100. |
