Hi Clark. This is a lovely composition and I don't think I've ever seen Half Dome from this angle before (that is Half Dome...right?). My eye desperately wants to examine every detail of the scene, but unfortunately, on my monitor the image is extremely soft. And, as Elsie has pointed out, the highlights on Half Dome are completely blown out. A disappointment for sure. |

Hi Hanna. As usual, you have shown us a beautiful and compelling portrait. But there are some elements of the image that seem a bit "off" to me. Firstly, I agree with Elsie that the skin on the model's face appears odd - it looks rough and irregularly textured which is different from what I understand grain to be. Secondly, there is a distinct imbalance of the lighting between her face and her hands. The hands are brighter than her face and that is the first place my eye lands and I don't think that was your intent. My last point is a suggestion that, in my opinion, would better match the pose with the image title. I don't get "loneliness" from this composition. Perhaps if the model's eyes were cast to one side and slightly downward, it might better evoke that feeling. |

Hi Elsie.
The subject has some interesting detail and you've done a good job of placing the main leaf in the frame. The B&W conversion works well and I think you were definitely on the right track with your post production. I took the liberty of playing around a bit in Photoshop. I wanted to reduce the brightness of the sky as I found it drew my eye away from the leaves. Additionally, I didn't feel the stem and partial leaf on the left added anything to the composition, so I eliminated it. I brought out some texture in the main leaf and played around with contrast, detail and tone curve. I don't know if it's an improvement... what do yo think. |

Hi Dale. This is a nice action shot that does indeed tell a good story. I like the composition and the subject is nicely in focus. I agree with Elsie that adding more tonal range would improve the image as her visual feedback shows. I've found that using Levels and/or manipulation of the tone curve can render a flat image more dynamic. |

Elsie, thanks for the feedback. I debated whether to eliminate the bright spot you refer to entirely or just bring down the brightness. Bringing down the brightness won... but in looking at it again I think you are correct that it would make a stronger composition if I were to eliminate it. |

Hi Bill. I think this is one of your better images to-date. I like the composition, and you've handled the post processing well. Nice tonal range. I'm not sure I'd reduce the background brightness unless you were able to brighten the main tree trunks. I think some contrast between subject and background is needed - either dark trees with light background or vice versa. |
