Believe me, Ellen, I took so many pictures just to get one that had something going for it! Keep on experimenting. That will quickly make you an expert!

Shirley, This is the PSA Image Evaluation Course. I have a great instructor although very exacting. It has been great fun. This image was taken to satisfy requirements for motion images. I went from sport to trains to drag way car racing. Crazy!
Right now I am working on the Macro Lesson which stimulated my comments on your image! |

Ellen, Hi and welcome to the group. I also enjoy taking pictures of horses and have done a lot of work with that. My daughter is a professional equestrian so I am around competitions a great deal with nothing to do but take pictures! This image is clear but the focus is a little blurred as Martin said. so yes, a faster shutter speed would solve that problem.
I think one thing that you might keep in mind for the next horse and rider images is to get the angle so that the face of both rider and horse are facing the camera. That will engage your viewer into the action!
So glad you have joined us.

Good advice as always! It is really fun to experiment with different types of situations to photograph. Next time out I will remember your advice on minimum shutter speed. Thx, |

I guess I a really into macro so do notice but only because I am problem solving the whole macro thing right now, I do think some of the circle are distracting but maybe if you only enlarge big time |

I love it! I am just starting to work with macro and am finding it difficult to get the math correct. How far away were you from your subject? I am working with a 100mm macro lens and the minimum focus distance is only 5 inches.
I do see the flash reflection in two spots which created a distracting area. I am wondering if the flash that can be purchased that surrounds the lens (macro ring flash) would help to solve that issue. Fun experiment! |

Hello, All
Sorry to have been missing in action. My daughter got married at the end of June in Hawaii and then I came down with Covid so am just rising for air!!! Literally! All good though. I submitted but am probably too late to have a photo join in.
Piers, I definitely think that Stuart's crop was terrific. You did a ton of work making the photo work and nicely dramatic, but I agree that choosing the boat as a subject was the correct choice. I also think getting rid of the pink is avery good idea. |
