Thank you all for the comments. It is interesting that I seem to be mesmerized by sky in most of my photos even when nothing much is going on in it. I am going to try to be aware of decreasing the amount of sky in images to see where that leads me. I also like the idea of taking the image from a lower camera angle and moving in closer. Might have to go back and give that try.
Sorry to be so late joining in but I appreciate all the feedback! |

I love everything about this portrait. I quess I will need to consult you anytime I need to take portraits. Really is outstanding and I will continue to study the details to improve my own portrait taking ideas! |

Karen, what a super image! I think you did a great job with the tree and it is positioned perfectly. I am going to check out Nik Color Efex Pro. I am completely unfamiliar with it and would be interested in learning more. |

I think Shirley's idea about going to a square format. that keeps the winding road and takes away distractions in the foreground. That way the image becomes one about wandering and not so much about fall foliage which might not be your intent here. I love the perspective you have chosen and that road makes me want to wander there! |

Shirley, what a great building to photograph. I really like what Martin did with the crop. Vertical orientation really brings out the architectural features which are truly fascinating. the B&W is a must here!Your clouds in the image are really great. What do you do to change the sky that way? |

I am really late to this discussion but I do think Martin is on the right track. I messed around with it a bit and came up with something similar to your revisions after Karen's comment. I think the cropping really focuses the viewer into the important aspects of the image. |

This image has beautiful color and texture. I think though that it is in reality two images which need to be treated separately. Aspens are beautiful in their own right and I love the log. this might be crazy but what would happen if you cropped down to the lower line of the Aspens and used the LR sliders to bring out the color but not the detail....dehaze maybe or linear gradient to blur the trees. That might totally change the image for the worse but might be an interesting alternative. |
