I am going to work on the photo to tone the background down. Now that several people have mentioned it that is all I can see in the picture. funny how that works! Thanks for the comments. Your comment about lack of story is an interesting one and has me thinking abut the venue and what I could have done to create that. Interesting thoughts! |

Thanks for the tip Karen. I will check out the website you recommend. I will add a post for the group once I get to my photo files that has this good fellow completely in focus! |

My husband cannot to heights so he did not follow my lead on that hike. I felt a bit guilty but he was all for me doing it as long as he did not have to! It was pretty scary to get up to it but breathtaking once there. |

Martin, I did not fully appreciate your cropping skills until looking at the original. Well done! I might think to play around with the cropping a bit and put him more to the center of the photo. Actually if you crop in just to the left of the Brown sign and crop in on the right to loose the green signs, it almost looks like he is driving right at you, the viewer. Makes it fun to see what can be done with a quick snap. I bet that guy is quite a character! |

Hey, Karen. This is a fun capture. You immediately get the sense of humor behind the photo. I think I would crop it in fairly tight to just the people and the birds. I would definitely crop the bottom up to the top rail. On the right of the picture I am not sure if you might like to crop all the way in to the person or leave it a bit more open because the second bird on the right is pretty awesome - full front to the camera! Glad you left it in color. I think there are too many mid-tones to make B&W interesting. Nicely done! Go back to the zoo and see what else might be lurking there! |

Piers, you did wonders for this photograph. The original certainly needed sprucing up. I am interested in your use of Luminar 4. I am unfamiliar with it and will be interested to look into it. I do think that your original intent of capturing the shape and table lines is a great concept. I would love to see what you would do with this in B&W. |

Arches!!!! One of my favorite places. Did you climb up to the Delicate Arch. Wow! Love your shot and you got a good star burst. Well done! The colors in this park are really worth the trip to photograph. |

Jim, You are right. This photograph makes me dizzy! I love the different details of the railing, the plant material and the light fixture. I think my issue is that I do not feel that I can find a focal point for the photograph on which to base my journey around the photo to see the details. I will be interested to see what others write. I guess my suggestion might be to fix on the light fixture as your focal point and narrow the field to give the viewer a place to start exploring this beautiful scene. |

You know, photography is an interesting medium. How do you get people to see or feel what you are trying to say or feel? I am very used to doing street photography, and yes, prepare everything before hand because you have the blink of an eye to get the correct image. I did that and it was a purposeful application of the settings I found to work. My focusing is not "way off" as you put it. It is intentional. The eye in the back is the place where I wanted people to land. There seems to be something hidden in his look that I found intriguing. I was trying to portray that. I have another I took of him that is spot on in focus but I did not find the photo nearly as intriguing to look at.
The comment you made about the background being too bright is spot on. I got so caught up in the eye of the picture that I did not see the importance of toning the background highlights down.
Thanks for the comments. Let's just agree to disagree! |
