yep: heading to Bali this time for some diving off the north shore and then a week and a half on Lembeh.
last year's Indo pics are up over at networkgirl.org and this week I'm finally finishing up my drone footage! |

A good portrait shot but on my monitor it's very noisy and lacking sharpness. If you have some post tools like Topaz Photo AI or the sub options (DeNoise/Sharpen) consider running it through those. Also the levels are quite flat so you may want to try a filter or simply adjusting your levels. That said, any member of the Tyrant family is often difficult to get a good still shot of as they are always on the move looking for those tasty-tasty bugs, kudos for what you did capture.
Also figure I'd post this here: August will be my last month in the PSA DD groups. The sudden cessation this month of the Nature Study Group that I was part of for five years has made me reevaluate my allotted time commitment to PSA. (Plus I will back in Indo for all of September and then, once back home I will be busy with some large projects like rebuilding our 50x60 pole barn.) Once I have spare cycles again I'm going to explore my local club's offerings as well as those of NANPA.
Feel free to stay in touch: you can find me in the wild via
stega.org (almost 8000 nature shots so far from here at the ranch)
purgatory.org (the ranch blog)
networkgirl.org (my photography site)
insta @the.stega
Plus I have a few other websites for things like my VO work, drone photography and diving media….I'm a very busy stega.

Lovely shot: good use of the back background to make it stand out. On my monitor the mouth and eye ore not sharp: consider running it through a sharpening tool. That said, the hues/levels are lovely so if you can bring the focus in for the fish's head it would be really stunning. |

A great shot but I think you could edit it further to make it really stunning. Consider what the main focus is that you want to the viewer to really take in: my suggestion/answeris that of the two Spoonbills with outstretched wings: so I would crop for them. This would mean tightening the frame to remove the far right bird AND some of the lovely rippling reflections. Yes the reflections are pretty but they compete for the viewer's eye when initial viewing the image and truncate the view line.

I agree with Ginny's suggestion: consider cropping in closer: since the robin is so far away consider this quick screen grab crop I just did.
For a first bird pic though: good job on getting good focus! Birds are so flighty and it can be tricky. Also your levels are nicely done.

A very very nice image: the akimbo legs add to the story as it's clear this is a takeoff and not a landing. My only suggestion would be to crop a skoosh tighter to remove a bit of the upper and right-side background.
