52 Feb 23 Reply nicely done. maybe I'll submit it next month to Nature2 ! Feb 19th
52 Feb 23 Comment A good action shot. Well done on the post: I think my only suggestion is to change the composition/crop. Maybe try a portrait orientation or crop out the bottom of the flower in the background to be a bit closer to the original aspect ratio. This might heighten the drama by dropping the the male down lower in the frame.

52 Feb 23 Comment I agree with Sharon's suggestion for cloning out the top blossoms. I think this might be a fun image to play further with: perhaps changing the background entirely: to something much darker and thus really show off the pale blossoms.

52 Feb 23 Comment I agree with earlier comments re: the amount of sky pulling focus from the peaks. Plus for images like this I'm fond on longer width/shorter height crops as that way the eye can pass left to right more easily and take in the subject. Plus removing the tiny bit of tree tops in the very near foreground.

I like Sharon's post work on the peaks but would suggest damping down the brightness of the mid-ground foliage..

52 Feb 23 Reply and the B&W option

52 Feb 23 Comment I like the feeling of power the image evokes. I get that it's a winter-time image and thus the rather bland tones which you worked in post to breathe some life into, but I'm wondering what it would like like as a BW image. I messed around with CaptureOne and some of the presets just to see what it could do: one option really brought up the blues (adjusted white balance, pulling up brightness of the midtowns) and the other was a B&W that really pushed the contrast and so I manually brought down the brightness. A very good and fun image with which to experiment!

52 Feb 23 Comment I read through the earlier comments and basically have the same sort of suggestions: a gradient mask or a subject specific mask to darken down the noisy background might also work. I like how you managed to sharpen up the details in post.

Maybe shift the crop so the subject is a bit more on the left and thus a bit more negative space on the right for a stronger view line for the viewer and bird's eyes to follow.
