I like what you did with the original image. For me the one "but" is the left over fuzziness for the foreground leaf. Perhaps an even tighter crop, even a square crop and then use the vertical trunk to split the image into halves.

I think you made an interesting crop choice from the original image, but agree with the others that the technical issues resulting from turning a wide shot into closeup hamper the final result. You might want to try cropping to include some of the other geese: perhaps the two on either side and the two further to the right (or just the two on either side. Alternatively you could turn the wing blur and hazy focus into a more abstract rendering.

I think you found a good subject to work with. The colors and levels are quite nicely done. Focus isn't as sharp - since you were shooting on a tripod I suspect the slow speed and a breeze are the cultprits. I'm also left wanting some sort of story in the image: perhaps an insect or super sharp closeup of just one of the flowers in the cluster with others falling softly out of the focal plane.

I really really like the post work you did, however I'm not a fan of the composition. As a landscape of a sweeping space it feels very constrained. Comparing the original with the final I actually prefer the comp of the former.

I like Mike's idea and the second edit. It suddenly springs forward as a strong cover image: perhaps for a notecard. The originally submitted image is well done: sharp focus and good levels, but after that I find it a bit boring: suddenly with that framing added it really pops. So while not a strict "nature" image, a good reminder that isn't always the point of every photo taken or the end result. :) |
