I like what you've done with it and my only comment/suggestion is to crop more to remove the board that appears to be hanging out in the middle of the air on the left: this would change the composition greatly as right now that actually becomes the focus of the story instead of the dreamy like fog. |

Great job on getting the bud nice and sharp. The purple blob in the background is distracting though: it breaks the composition.
You mention taking a PS course soon and this is a great image to work with masks on in PS or other tool of choice. |

I like the overall image and composition, but I'd remove the vignette in the lower left as it breaks the vertical composition created by the branch and breaks the movement of the viewer's eye across the image. Since the primary subject is round, the square crop works well. |

I agree with Mike and Judith: would also work with selective masks to pull focus more towards the two giraffe heads. I played a a bit further with Mike's edited version and cropped tighter with a vertical comp to isolate just the two as well as brining up out more of the red/oranges. |

Hard bird to capture! Building on Mike's comment instead of working to dodge/burn the background to bring out the bird more, you may want to work to make the dead brown grass green and then maybe blur it slightly to mess with the DoF. I played about with a fast mask to do the later to show what I mean. |

I agree with both Mike and Judith's earlier comments: the greens in the final versions are a bit off to my eye and I prefer the original with the mud and debris in the foreground. Keeping more of the foreground creates more of a nature story as the image is less about the mountains and sky reflected in the water and more about the complete environment: from rotting log under the water's surface to the fluffy clouds in the sky.
I worked the original image a bit in CaptureOne to give a feel of what I mean: adjusted the crop and whitepoint, then pushed the overall contrast and finally, using a quick mask, I adjusted the overall RGB curve and level of the water do pull out more of the green. |
