97 Nov 20 Reply The Hawkesbury River, 40 kms north of Sydney, Australia. We have been studying the Sea Eagles for about 5 years, and they have become accustomed to our presence, allowing us to watch them from close up. It is a magnificent waterway with sandstone cliffs and rich birdlife. At this time of year there is a lot of interaction, as the different bird species defend their young and territories. Nov 21st
97 Nov 20 Comment Hi Matt, love the light and warm colours. I would also crop a bit at the bottom of the pic Nov 17th
97 Nov 20 Comment Hi Thorro, like the midway crop: just enough. Also the way the track leads into the subject. It would have been nice if all of the faces were on view, but the problem with wild things is "they be wild things". Like children, they rarely face the camera in the same moment and in the correct pose. One of our passengers recently called out in frustration "Arrest that fish!" as it drifted past a 4 knot sign, spoiling the magical moment. Nov 17th
97 Nov 20 Comment Hi Steve, Like that you chose B+W to document this. The "blacker" version enhances the detail, and is more dramatic. A magnificent photo. Nov 17th
97 Nov 20 Comment Hi Matthias. I am new to this, but really like the changes you made. They look more natural but still dramatic. A beautiful capture. Nov 17th
97 Nov 20 Comment Hi Stanley, like both the colour and B+W versions, but the golden "trumpet" in the reflection at the end of beak tips the balance to the colour version. Love the detail that you managed to capture in spite of the fog Nov 17th
97 Nov 20 Comment It's lovely to see an impressive sunset with such magnificent colours. The dark cloud on the right looks like a giant hand, drawing one in. You are fortunate to have the topic at your club. I was disappointed when one of our club judges informed us that he would not give awards to photographers of sunsets, sunrises and pelicans! (We took him along on a recent trip, and he deigned to photograph a most magnificent sunrise, and some pelicans). Agree with the "too much water", but sometimes the reflections are such a big part of the picture that I would not consider it a general rule never to be broken. Nov 17th
97 Nov 20 Reply Hi Thorro. Thank you for your comments. It's always a toss up between more detail vs background for the story. I wanted to emphasise the eagles' claw and the feather detail, as the background was so out of focus in the low light. Levelling the horizon puts the eagle in a slightly unusual flying posture, and what I tried to capture was the amazing skill of the younger eagle leaning slightly backward as it reached up below the adult as it flew higher. How did you remove the red buoy? Cleaned the sensor! - Thanks Nov 17th
