Great action shot.. I won't repeat the cropping suggestions
It's a bit soft in places. I would speed up the shutter a little and have the f stop up a notch or two and raise ISO accordingly and deal with any effects in something like Topaz. I have done the Cheyenne rodeo twice and on my second one I started thinking of these like doing birds in flight--get the speed up and deal with ISO impact later.
I would dehaze the horse's head. I know that's dust on the head and neck, but sharpen those areas and leave the dust elsewhere. Maybe some sharpening on the tail and fringe on the rider's outfit. I would try to bring out more detail of the horses muscles elsewhere.
Dull down some of the whites and sky showing in the stands or another thought, a Gaussian blur for the background and leave the horse and rider sharp. |

Very nice portrait. I am catching up. I have been in Africa all month.
I would also darken the bright spots. It will help bring him out more. In fact, darken the background in general using layers. I would also darken the shirt a tad. |

Love the colors and sharpness but I think a bit busy
I think the crop to the left of the bench would help produce a better center of interest because the bench then leads into the photo instead of leading off to the right side. That crop also eliminates a light area in the upper left between the bluish branches.
I would also darken that light spot on the left tree where the pointed board is pointing. In general, if you deal with the bright spots that will also give you better cohesiveness for the eye.
I also would crop up from the bottom and that gets rid of too much foreground and the light area on the lower left.
I think this photo can be much stronger with changes to such elements so play with it. It's photo that's worth the effort.
